Re: The LeBron James Thread
Thought this was interesting
Wade and James often refer to themselves as friends, but those close to them say that's not exactly accurate. They are friendly. More important, though, they have shown a commitment to working with each other. That was ultimately why James made the decision to trust Wade in Game 7 against the Pacers. Wade took the first shot of the game and put up four before James fired his first. Wade ended up with 21 points, his best game of the postseason to that point; James finished strong and had 32 points. Miami ended up in the Finals, where James again helped a struggling Wade come through in Game 7 -- with 23 points and 10 rebounds -- while he authored one of the greatest series-winning performances in NBA history. Once again, they had navigated the key moments, under outrageous pressure, and held the partnership together.Yet the dynamic had clearly shifted. And in the Bahamas, everyone senses it. James now feels and acts like the leader of the team, and Wade has accepted his lesser role. "I'm the second option on this team," Wade had said at the team's media day in Miami. "Point-blank. Let's say it." Given that one of Wade's first orders of business during the Big Three's initial training camp in 2010 had been to announce that he would no longer answer to "Flash" -- the sidekick nickname Shaquille O'Neal bestowed on him nine years earlier -- this is a big, if obvious, admission.Comment

No offense to those people but it's a waste of time wondering what they think when you don't agree with their line of thinking. I agree with you, btw.Comment

Re: The LeBron James Thread
I kind of wonder what it would take for LeBron to be consider the best. He's got to be the best small forward right? Will it take 8 rings? 5 more MVP trophies?Hands Down....Man Down - 2k9 memories

Re: The LeBron James Thread
In some minds, he will never be considered the best.
I'm old enough to have seen and remembered late prime Jordan, from 94-retirement, and I'd say that LeBron is probably the best player I've ever seen play.
But really, who cares? It's different strokes for different folks. They are both top 5 to ever play the game, so it's nitpicky to call either GOAT.
There are still people out there who think Wilt or Jabbar are the GOAT. Some think Russell is GOAT. Who cares?Too Old To Game Club

Re: The LeBron James Thread
im one of those ppl who place a high value on rings, especially when i feel that said player has/had a contending worthy team around themselves. but i also know that there are sometimes other factors involve that can be out of said players control.
having said that, my personally feelings on the matter is that in terms of being eligible for consideration as the GOAT, there is a minimum number of rings a player must win b4 im willing to consider his application.
and staying true to that, ive never argued that lebron had to win 6 or so rings to be considered the GOAT. and tho i havent really sat down to think too deeply about it; off the top of my head ill go with 3 rings as my baseline standard for consideration of the title GOAT.
so in this example, lets say that by the end of lebrons career, i thought that he was the "best" player id ever seen, but he was still stuck on 2 titles. i wouldnt consider him eligible for the title of GOAT, but would simply refer to him the best player ive ever seen.
if you find that strange, know that to me there is a difference between the best player ive ever seen and the greatest player ever. tho presently i dont consider lebron either of those things; but he still has plenty of time to possibly change that.
what i can say presently is that lebron has finally reached a point with me where i will never bag on him again about not winning; even if he never won another title. in my eyes he is a made man. he is his own monument in the history of the game.Last edited by TajDeni; 10-18-2013, 06:45 PM.Through Holy Union God Lives Inside For Everyone

Re: The LeBron James Thread
How could the GOAT end up with only 2 or 3 rings though?
Thing is to me the GOAT has to be the most skilled player ever. He has to know everything about the game, he has to be able to pull off every moves. Lebron is a freak of nature and is great at what he does but he isn't there yet.
But the older he gets, the more I appreciate his game.Last edited by Vni; 10-18-2013, 06:56 PM.Comment

Re: The LeBron James Thread
This dude is 28...I don't get the obsession with the GOAT talk...he's got miles to go before his career is over..
I wonder if this is how some people felt when people referred to MJ as the goat 1 ring in...Comment

That GOAT crap wasn't around then so no, thankfully. Plus we weren't quite the jump-to-conclusion society that we are now either."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Re: The LeBron James Thread
There also wasn't this much sensitivity about it either.
Honestly the fact that so many people need to defend Jordan the way they do, and the way Jordan has to bring up LeBron talks "I wouldn't team with Magic and Bird", "Id take Kobe", "LeBron doesn't have the rings", "I would just make him go left", "I could take him one on one", and all the stuff he has to constantly say about him.. All of that just makes me feel like it's much closer than what people act like it is anyways... I wouldn't say people are "scared" that someone could be better than him, but it seems to be unsettling to a lot of people, even MJ, and I don't understand why it should be a problem..
In no other case can I think of where people get this worked up about it.. There are people who don't think Jordan is the GOAT. There are people who pick Russell, Wilt, Kareem, Magic, Bird, etc.. I knew people who personally would tell me I was wrong for thinking Jordan was the best ever when I was younger, most of them older... But even then it didn't matter on opinion, people didn't react like this, it wasn't like somebody was surpassing their hero... And honestly that's how people make this whole debate look..Comment

Ehhhhh, Jordan got more than a little bit of shade back in the day. One of the many many things he used as added motivation in his career. This same stuff was there, just not the scale it is now.Comment

Re: The LeBron James Thread
Weird as it sounds my dad was always the Dr. J guy. He wouldn't ever let me give Jordan credit because it was always something he'd already saw from the Doc, or things he thought Doc did better.. He eventually would admit Jordan was the best ever, but it took him years.. He was never big on Magic or Bird.. Oddly.Comment
