Re: The LeBron James Thread
Man I would be forever in debt to LeBron if he doesn’t sign with the Lakers. Sorry Vni. LaVar gets way too much attention as is, LaVar’s attention level with LeBron in LA would be through the damn roof.
He of course opened his mouth today in an interview. He gave his prediction again that LeBron would sign with the Lakers. When asked if he thinks James will sign in L.A., Ball said, "I don't feel like it, I know he is. I already told you to call him L.A. Bron."
That’s all well and good. Cool. But then he has to be obnoxious *** LaVar with his next mess in the interview.Comment

Re: The LeBron James Thread
Imagine a free agent draft.
Everybody in the free agent pool, all waiting to be picked. KD opting out of OKC only to be drafted by the Kings. The Heatles never existing because Bosh was drafted by Orlando and LeBron ended up in Toronto.Comment

Re: The LeBron James Thread
Only if everyone is in one room and we see reactions to getting drafted. Picture it, a guy finding out he's drafted to a team he didn't want to go to...
And teammates finding out they'll be split up

Re: The LeBron James Thread
That would probably be an even better incentive for guys to stay with their team if they knew that if they let their contract expire, they could end up in a situation they really dont like.
Make it so that it's only when rookie contracts expire. So they have the option to stay with the team that drafted them or go into the draft and end up with a completely new team.
I would think it would go a long ways with helping with parity and making off-season and the season that follows just that much more exciting.

Am I crazy for thinking that that would actually be an idea I can get behind?

Re: The LeBron James Thread
Rookie contracts are 5 years with the 5th being a team option/restricted.
What if we took the rookie contract to three years. After that, they have the option to resign with their current team or enter the draft (I was thinking of one big draft with the college and high school kids as well).
The college and high school kids would still get signed to the basic rookie deal. But the "vets" would be able to sign with the team that drafted them for more money on another 3 year deal.
After that deal is up they are unrestricted. It's not much different as far as not being able to choose. Like I said, as it is currently, rookies really have no say in where they go for 5 years now. This would move that to just 6. And if the NBA goes forth with allowing high school kids to enter, then the age in which they could be completely unrestricted is exactly the same.
