    Re: The LeBron James Thread

Looking at that, in the scenario that he does leave then the best possible situation would be for him to go to Golden State, if we were to get Klay Thompson. That gives us a pretty good piece, either in negotiating some kind of trade to get a couple players or picks because a consistent 3 point shooter is something a lot of teams would want.

Our biggest issue is we have some guys on big money who don’t produce nearly enough. JR Smith is untradeable at this point because nobody wants to pay him $15m.

In terms of getting back to a healthy payroll, we kind of need LeBron to leave, or the long period of suffering post-LeBron will be worse than it was the last time he left. We were $38m over the cap last season.

Cavs only have 2 years of contracts left. They are set up fine for a rebuild when he leaves because literally everyone will be off the books soon, or traded as expiring contracts. They really aren’t screwed this time around. Plus if he actually leaves Love and Thompson will get offers fielded for them. Definitely likely nobody wants Smith, but at only 2 years left they can just not play him or get him to agree to a buyout.

I don't really think any of LeBron's options are likely to beat Golden State to be honest. MAYBE Houston. That's probably it. A few of his options would at least give him a better shot than Cleveland can likely provide though.

As long as the Lakers are willing to trade some of their young guys/picks, then yes. I'm picturing a LeBron-PG-McCollum trio personally. If they get both LeBron and PG, they can easily justify moving at least one of Ingram/Kuzma, if not both.

And everyone has heard my cries for Randle.
Lopez is a free agent. I think Lonzo is actually best suited in an off-ball role and think he'd be a good fit next to LeBron. And I would much, much rather build a team around LeBron, Paul George, and a 3rd all-starish level player than to pray that Ingram or Kuzma turn into a player of that caliber.

I think it logically makes the most sense for him to leave the East just due to the opportunities that are out there. The Lakers, Rockets, and Spurs all offer a better opportunity than any of his realistic choices in the East likely do IMO. And regardless of the conference he plays in, he almost certainly has to beat the Warriors anyways.

I haven't looked at it too closely but I believe if they could attach someone like Ingram or Ball to Deng and get rid of his $18M, then they could bring in a third player in the $20-25 million/year range.

I could be wrong but from what I've read, I think they have to get rid of Deng or stretch him just to get the 2nd max slot.

The Hawks for example might take on dengs contract if they offered something like Randall, Kuzma, and a few 1st round picks. They could also swap Deng for Bazemore and pay whatever the difference would be since Baze is a solid 3 & D guy. Bazemore is owed a lot of $ but at least your getting a player that will contribute.

From what I understand they would have to take on a decent amount of $ in return for deng's contract because it's over 6.5mil or so according to the trade machine so I don't see anyone going to LA except maybe PG unless Bron just wants to live in LA.

I don't see how, Lopez is over 20 mil, KCP just under 20 mil, Frye just under 8, IT around 6-7.. That's contract coming off with no trades at all. These dudes aren't asking for 40mil a piece surely.

Randle's RFA cap hold put the Lakers at about 49 mil in cap space. Bron and George would cost 35 mil and 30 mil respectively, so renouncing him doesn't get them there unless those guys take each take like 10% less than max. Blowing out Deng does get them there, but personally I don't want to give up any of the kids for probably 2 years of elite but not enough to get us over top with the team we would probably have, LeBron
