    Re: The Carmelo Anthony Saga

I mentioned pages back that Melo's intent was to team up with CP3, preferably in New York. New Orleans fan thought I was full of it. Seems like there's a possibility it may happen.

Anyhow, Melo, Stat, and CP3 is a championship caliber core. And if the intent is to match up with the Heat, I think they do that and some. I'm not even a Knicks fan and I'm hoping this happens. And if it does, all I can do is shake my head at Chicago... They will not get a ring. In not dealing for Melo, they've practically cemented themselves as the 4th seed in the East in coming years. Possibly lower than that if Boozer doesn't stay healthy. Bad move in my opinion.

So in that deal, Curry is not a part of it, so we'll still have some cap room after the season?

It seems like a pretty good deal for everyone given the circumstances, though I'm a little confused that Denver wants Varejao and that contract. Cleveland and NY would both be getting great deals.

          Billups/Lawson
          Whoever, Afflalo?
          Gallo
          Varejao
          Nene

@ Jets, yeah I didn't even catch that Curry's name wasn't mentioned. I have to believe he'll be involved somehow especially to make the #'s work financially. I don't think we're concerned with cap room this coming summer if we get Melo, I think the FA class is going to be weak. Summer '12 is what we'll be eyeing with CP3 and this deal would set us up nicely as I detailed above.

This is crazy man. We have to give up 3 young prospects for a guy that would definitely sign with us straight up as a free agent??

Adding Melo to our existing group without trading them away would just be soo sweet.

You'll eventually have to get rid of them anyway to sign CP3.

I like Andy but getting Randolph and cap space would be ****ing awesome. Not sure of how good Chandler is/can be. Only seen him in a few games since I've never had any reason to watch the Knicks in awhile.

There wouldn't be enough minutes for Gallo, AR & Chandler if we signed Melo as an FA anyway. The only one I'll be upset to see go is Gallo. I could care less about Chandler and AR.

Andy would be a younger, much healthier and cheaper version of K-Mart. He may not give you the impact defense that K-Mart gives but Andy is a top 5 defensive big in the NBA.

True. Although a lot can be said about having a deep roster. You could use those players to acquire pieces that would remove any weaknesses.

At the end of the day I just want Carmelo on our roster.

Weren't you pretty excited to get Randolph?

Has the preseason changed your mind that much?

I was initially since we could have gotten nothing in return for Lee. I saw him a few times in GS and watched every preseason game for the Knicks - his basketball IQ is as poor as anyone's in the league. He has no idea what he's doing out there. I knew he had issues upstairs but they're worse than I thought.

My feelings on him are pretty much irrelevant at this point because things change when we're discussing acquiring a Top 3 scorer in the league. No one on this roster should be untouchable (besides Amare of course) in a deal for a player of Melo's caliber. While AR's upside/potential is enormous I think there is very little chance he reaches it.

I was also against us trading for Melo at first because I wanted us to wait. Now, looking at it long term, I think we have to get him anyway possible and if he's not going to play in Denver this year then we gotta do what we gotta do to acquire him.

When you look at how stacked the championship contenders are then you realize that praying guys like AR and Gallo will reach their potential is pretty much useless. Even if we get CP3 (and Melo goes elsewhere) we aren't a contender. If we want a ring we pretty much have to have Amare/Melo/CP3 for the start of the 2012 season. We might as well shoot for the stars and if it means trading a lot to get Melo then I'm fine with it - we'll need the cap space to make a run at CP3 anyway.

Yea I get that, I'd trade AR for him too. I was just wondering if you were really down on him, or still liked him but would be willing to trade him.

I'm still not sold on trading Gallo, Randolph, and picks, especially since that might mean trading another player for one of the picks to trade. And especially since the Bulls are probably out, and the Knicks seem to be the one team he really wants to play for.

But....I'm sure if we get Melo I will talk myself into pretty quickly.

Signing Melo in free agency is obviously the ultimate win for us but I don't think Melo is going to suck it up and play the whole year in Denver. I'm hoping we can keep Gallo out of the deal as the longer this whole ordeal goes on the less leverage Denver has. I think Melo will force their hand before Christmas and he'll be traded.

                                Re: The Carmelo Anthony Saga

I am a huge Bulls fan and I am one who says I really don't want this trade for us. It's not that I am too high on Noah or anything like that. I am looking at it from a team building and results standpoint. First off if we did get Melo our trio still falls short of the one in Miami. Bosh is better than Boozer and the main thing he doesn't have the same injury concerns. LeBron is supior to Melo and Wade is better than Rose. So if we are banking on them three to win it for us we are still behind the better team. That doesn't even begin to go into the fact that KURT THOMAS would have to be our starting center. Dwight Howard would have a field day with that as well as all the other all star bigs. Boozer already is weak defensively as well as Melo leaving alot to be desired on that end. That would give us a very weak defensive front court. That is not something you can build a championship on. I won't even mention what the Lakers would do to that front line.

Secondly it will kill our cap. Nobody knows how far it will drop in the new CBA deal but even if it stayed the same we would be crippled. Rose has got to be resigned and you know that will be a max deal or very close to one. Then you have Boozer taking up all that money and then Melo with his max deal. So that would put us in the position of trying to find guys for alot less money.

Lastly I dont think bringing in Melo for the deal they are talking about makes us that much better of a team. Right now I could see us as the 4th seed and maybe pushing for the third if all things go right. With Melo I really don't see us moving up any higher than that. Like I said Miami's big three would still be greater than ours without question. Then you are talking about Kurt Thomas and Omer Asik trying to contain Dwight Howard. Good luck with that. Then they would also have to try and contend with all the bigs the Celtics got. I honestly don't see the Melo move making us any better than those three teams. So we are still in the same spot. That doesn't even begin to talk about all the problems we would have with the Lakers. Noah isn't anywhere remotely near the player Melo is no question but is losing all of what he brings to our team really worth the extra 6 points or so Melo brings in over Deng?? IMO I don't think it makes us that much better and still doesn't put us into the same league as the Heat and the Lakers.
