Im not sure it would work this way, but one potential problem with Toronto is that if there is contraction, it may involve some sort of compromise with the players union that allows them to have a say in which teams get contracted. If players would rather play in other cities, that could work against Toronto.

But again, Im not sure thats how it would work.

I agree that if a city supports a city, its stupid to contract the league. Its kind of stupid anyway. At one point, it seemed like a good idea, so either the ownership is poor, or its a reaction to hard economic times. Contracting because of hard economic times is short-sighted and overreacting.

I think this is mainly a ploy to create leverage. I think Stern really just wants salaries to come down and so he's wielding the threat of contraction.

Wouldnt the owner have to contract his own team, how would u force a team to contract?

the funny thing is that stern is considering contraction to cut cost. But he wants whole divison of 4-5 teams based in europe. What the hell is wrong with this do. There all ready league in europe its called the euro league.

          1 OR more Blocks

          AND

          1 OR more Steals

          AND

          3 OR less Personal Fouls

It's not perfect because of it's simplistic nature but you can check a barebones boxscore and determine a QDG, and when racked up over an entire season, the better defenders consistently top the charts.

Ben Wallace was a long-time QDG title holder. LeBron won the title last year.

they need a stat that shows how many times you wander away from a 3pt shooter and then react too late to contest the 3pter, especially considering the fact that your 6'4 and dont effect the shot when u arrive that late.

Mayo would lead the league in the category as well

haha... every defender who is guarding Richard Jefferson so far this year are racking up that stat too.

                LBJ in favour of contraction?
PHOENIX -- During a candid pregame discussion about whether the formation of Miami’s free-agent trio was good for the NBA, LeBron James said the most sensible thing I’ve ever heard him say.

Contraction would be great for the NBA.

Well, he didn’t us the word “contraction,” but James said he hopes that some day the NBA will be able to figure out how to bring the game back to the greatness that was experienced in the 1980s, when “ten teams had probably two or three All-Stars on one team, at least.”

When someone correctly pointed out that there were only 24 teams then, as opposed to the 30 that exist now, James said, “That’s why it was great. That’s my point.”

He went on to say more stuff about teams like the Nets and Wolves. Basically saying what a ton of people are thinking.

I'm gonna guess people will change their minds now because LeBron agrees.

About the Nets/Wolves part you mentioned, here's the quote. It's hilarious.

"Imagine if you could take Kevin Love off Minnesota and add him to another team and you shrink the [league]. Looking at some of the teams that aren't that great, you take Brook Lopez or you take Devin Harris off these teams that aren't that good right now and you add him to a team that could be really good. Not saying let's take New Jersey and let's take Minnesota out of the league. But hey, you guys are not stupid, I'm not stupid, it would be great for the league."

Perhaps that's a hint why James didn't seriously consider signing with the Nets last summer.

LBJ is the same guy who has ideas like "Lets retire the number 23 from the NBA!"

I am in favor of building high profile teams and erasing at least 3 from the NBA roster. But LBJ is a little wacky.

From a business POV, Miami has LBJ DWADE, and theyre half empty every night. Something the league will have to consider. Then again the NBA hasnt made a good decision for the league in a while. These are the people who want technical fouls called on players exhibiting passionate emotions.

Chicago is still the best selling NBA team.

Lebron seriously needs to think before he speaks. When he said that I wonder if he knew he was advocating for a ton of guys, many of which are possibly his friends, to lose their jobs.
As Shaquille O'Neal left the Suns practice court, he yelled out, "Alvin's the coach. We must be the Clippers. And I must be Olowokandi. Nooooo!"

Except he spoke the truth. Fact is expansion was never about making the game better. Expansion's sole purpose is to prevent a rival league from starting up.
I dont remember there names but they were allot of fun....

The Grizzlies are going to suck as long as Chris Wallace in charge.

Even as a fan, I say put the Grizzlies out of their misery and contract them.

I'll enjoy watching Gay/Mayo on teams that are actually good.

The Magic have the best and most modern arena in the NBA that just opened this year and you think they have any sort of chance to be cut? Lol.

They need to get rid of the joke that is the WNBA before cutting any NBA teams.
