Just how these current guys dont respect greats before this generation. ..the next generation is going to leave guys like iverson and Kobe with the same kind of talk or worse leaving this current gen trying to defend but end up being told its nostalgia and the stat stuff is going to come full circle

Iverson brought a world of hurt on himself though.

20 years from now all the next generation's gonna have is stats and highlight reels which don't tell the whole story.

I think he's a first ballot hall of famer, warts and all.

do you have any doubts? just asking

first ballot hof'er to me, no matter if you hated his game or loved it

people said all things possible about Iverson but one thing is for certain-when he stepped on the court he always gave 100 %, he was a worrior and should be remembered as one

Looking at his accomplishments both on and off the court I'll say that he is a first ballot HoF.

I don't think people will see him as first ballot material due to his off the court issues but put that aside and you have one of the greatest little men to ever play the game.

I liked Iverson. I just wanted to hear a few people's opinions. I know some people aren't fond of his game, and I've been told here before that I've drastically overrated him..

As much as people talk trash about AI's off the court life here, I don't think I ever seen anyone call him overrated. That would be insane lol. Especially now where we see guys with "similar" play styles that cant get the job done.

People want to look at stats and say his FG% wasn't that good, Ignoring the fact that he was double team most of his career and were playing injured. This generation of "chuckers" shoot terribly without having to take tough shots lol. AI's best shooting season came when he didn't have to carry the load when he joined Melo in Denver.

and i'm sure many from this generation will forget about this aspect of Iversons career too..funny how that whole nostalgia/stat thing works both ways..

I'm sure the fact he essentially kicked himself out of the league because of his pride will be forgotten with time as well...

Of course they will conveniently but the next generation will tear down his game and character in favor of their best player like D Rose or Kyrie Irving or Andrew Wiggins

Man, that video tore me up. Iverson was a true one of a kind player. With how the game is being "optimized" I don't see anything like him ever coming along again. No team would give him that freedom now. It's understandable why but.... when it worked, it was just awesome. As cliche as it is, it gets no realer than him. He had to go out as he did, that's the person he was from the day he stepped on the court. Some loved him for it, some hated him. I get both sides. Wish I saw more of him.

My biggest NBA what-if disappointment has to be Iverson being traded to Denver instead of Minnesota to play with KG. I was dying for that to happen.

When was the last time someone that short was the #1 overall pick in the NBA draft???

1:44 to 1:58 on that video... That is what you need to know about AI.

I was never a huge fan of his, but I respect his game. The dude had so much talent.

A lot of people are going to judge him and make fun of him for ending up broke. It is sad in the realm of the sports world. We're not talking about genocide or Syria or anything here. Talking of such things is against this site's ToS (for the most part). This is Operation Sports. I don't care what people think of him as a man -- respect his game. He played on some pretty weak teams in Philly and his supporting cast was never great. He did what he could. He was drafted to put the ball in the bucket. He was drafted to jack up 20+ shots a night.

As to his personality... I'm not going to judge him. I'm just not, because I did not grow up where he grew up. I never had to worry about where my next meal came from. I was fortunate in that I grew up with kids that were like-minded in that we always wanted to stay away from the bad stuff and our upbringing and situation made it so that was fairly easy to do.

I am sure he could have made different choices... Which means what, exactly? That he act fake? Again, 1:44 to 1:58 is Allen Iverson. I don't have to agree with it, but I respect it, as I respect his game.

He is an all-time great. No doubt about it in my mind.

I do blame him for his career being shortened and not realizing that adults need to grow up.

It's not about being fake is about maturing. It's something he fought tooth and nail in the name of keeping it real and it left him with what? Being blacklisted and out of basketball for good.

Respecting talent is one thing but in the end character keeps you where gifts and talents take you. AI chose his path and while I hate to sit here and think what if on his career that's exactly where he ended it.
