Re: Allen Iverson : After the NBA

Man, I'm really debating whether or not to join this convo. CBA, son -- I don't know what you're talking about right now. Bubba Chuck played hurt almost his ENTIRE career. '05 Iverson wasn't a 'shell' but those injuries were catching up. Billy King NEVER got AI any help. Larry Hughes was supposed to be the sidekick he needed and never really developed into anything but a journeyman. They brought in Iggy to REPLACE him. If the team you played injured for, carried for 10 years, suddenly just wanted to toss you out -- would you not be offended? Billy King ruined that relationship. He always brought in some older player on the backend of their career (Mutombo, Webber, Van Horn, Kukoc) that really couldn't help in the long run. AI carried the likes of Eric Snow, Aaron McKie, Tyrone Hill, and Matt Geiger all to the mountain top. <-- Really lost my mojo with this so I'll stop. Forgot where I was going with this but it was very important

FYI: The reason teams aren't taking a chance with AI is not because he wants to be a starter no matter what, because he could (well at least last year) start for a lot of teams, but because he's had some personal demons in his life. He has had a gambling and alcohol problem these last few years and teams are afraid to take a chance with that. Those issues were on top of the fact that he was going through a divorce. Behind the scenes effect a lot more than we think -- like Rashard McCants -- that cat can still play with the best of them but teams are afraid because he's a thug. No team is really questioning AI's ability (well, maybe now that he's a little older) but the baggage kept him out of the league.

Your being disengenous if you dont think theynever tried.. they played to his ego alot more than your are leading on. I have nothing against Ai.. and Ai wasnt a thug idk why people say this about him.. The characterization speaks to alot of ignorance.. not saying this is how you feeel but i just seen the word thug.. and people like to make this racialized generalization..

He wasnt easy to get along with or play with.. he stifled many of his teams.. because of this thats just the fact.. doesnt change the fact that he was a great player.. madd heart.

He was drafted in 96, won the MVP in 2000... and went to the Nuggets in 2006. Yeah, I'd say he was far from his prime at that point. That doesn't mean he wasn't productive. It means he wasn't the player that could carry a team to a championship like he did 10 years before that.

So, to be clearer, I still don't see how the 6ers were better when he left (believe they were under .500... maybe even well under .500), but if he left in his prime (around 2000) instead of remaining the face of the franchise for a decade the team would've been an absolute train wreck.

Be careful. On the court AI was a great talent, but off the court .

I've partied in the same club with him a few times. He's a thug.

Or the part about the trouble he and his crew often got into... not sure where that relates to Chris Anderson or Jason Williams. Don't remember them putting out gangsta rap albums either. Thug or not (I don't think he is) if anyone has happily presented the image of being a thug it's AI. With the legal issues before even going to Georgetown, he had reason to present himself differently and he chose not to. I've got no problem with it and clearly neither does he, but anyone up in arms over someone thinking he was a thug needs to follow AI's lead on the matter.

Don't take that "others" comment any further. For one, it's pretty ignorant, but more importantly, taking threads in that direction is against the TOS of this site.

Thank You and my point was, because im not into the thug talk... don't present yourself like one to all of the people in the NBA and you wont get the label

the pic is just ONE example of the many I provided and coupled all of those things togther which you know for a fact those GM's and owners know about... The guy has no one else to blame but himself

Shoot wasnt there a youtube vid in denver after a club night out with melo they're high or drunk or whatever in the parking lot? Thats troublesome to organizations

Nothing to write home about... but either way, doesn't change the main point. Iverson wasn't the player to carry a team of also rans to the finals at that point (meaning "a shell of his former self"). It's not hard to get a couple of games better when a team is coming from 32 and 35 wins before he left. If it were a situation like the Nuggets when Melo left (or maybe even the Sixers when Barkley left... not 100% on that one but I think they went from decent to better or maintaining the level) it'd be different. But the Iverson that went to Denver was just a stat filler on a bad team.

As for the other stuff, I personally discourage generalizing people you don't know on a message board. But yes, "that" type of generalization is discouraged here. History shows the threads only end up getting locked and otherwise good posters end up getting banned.

Feel free to keep talking about everything else.

Yes, really. And the NBA is a better place when players aren't looking up to this overrated ball hog loser of a human being.

He benefited from being in the NBA when the NBA sucked. Yeah, he had some GREAT handles and was a thief stealing the ball, but everything else about him was so overrated.

The NBA got better when this human waste left.
