Re: Allen Iverson : After the NBA
Iverson on Lue remains my favorite moment of that series. It sent so many messages with such a simple gesture. I remember at the time it happened I was thinking the Lakers got mad disrespected at that point but it was like Philly was saying here we are.. nobody is scared. It was awesome... we did that crossover at the park for days

Re: Allen Iverson : After the NBA
Iverson should have done the 'accept whatever role is available' 3 years ago. He'd still be in the league now and would still be wanted, especially for a team that's on the verge of being contenders. BUT Iverson just did not want to accept that his skills was declining and he needed to take a lesser role in order for whatever team he was on to be successful.
Iverson is still an effective ball player. However, he still has the mentality that he's 'prime' Iverson(1999-2006), which is not the case anymore. If he would have just accepted that he couldn't dominate the entire game anymore BUT STILL dominate in spurts then he's still be playing for someone. And most likely, a contending team.
Just think of it this way, let's say Iverson a couple of years ago accepted being a role guy. To me, even as a role guy. he could still provide about 15-20 points off the bench in 22-25 minutes. Iverson could have cashed in on the 2010 free agent frenzy from last year because either some unsuspecting dopey GM would have paid him more than what he could provide(Probably thinking he could be 2001 Iverson again). OR he could have been signed by a team like Chicago for maybe a little more than his market value(BUT not insanely overpaying him) and played the 3rd guard off the bench. As a Bulls fan, I would have taken Iverson over CJ Watson as my backup 3rd guard. If the Bulls had a guy like Iverson with the 'accepted' attitude, I would have liked their chances much better against Miami. At that point, when the Heat started to bottle up Rose in the 4th quarter, Thibs could have let the reigns loose on Iverson. A guy who has a history of dominating 4th quarters and still could have when called upon.I have more respect for a man who let's me know where he stands, even if he's wrong. Than the one who comes up like an angel and is nothing but a devil. - Malcolm XComment

Re: Allen Iverson : After the NBA
Man, I loved Iverson when he was in his prime. I didn't love his attitude, but you have to appreciate that the dude was out there throwing himself into guys like Shaq and Mt. Mutombo night in and night out to try and win. I'm not sure how people can argue that he never had the drive (or 'it factor') to win a title because him carrying that 2001 Sixers team to the Finals was like LeBron carrying the 2007 Cavs team to the Finals. I've always thought that Iverson caught the 'good virus', meaning that everyone knew he was damn good, but he knew he was damn good himself and he let it get to him (the whole not coming off the bench thing) and that's what led to his demise.
That being said, I'd love to see a contender (just not Miami, I can't root for them) pick him up and for him to win a title.Browns

Re: Allen Iverson : After the NBA
I think Miami would be a horrible fit. Just like they're turning Bosh into Luc Longely (until recently) they'd turn AI into BJ Armstrong. You've got two guys that need to dominate the ball and you'd bring in another to either start or come off the bench? Or you just make AI a spot up jump shooter? I think he'd be better filling a Jason Terry type of role for some team.Comment

Re: Allen Iverson : After the NBA
He can't be the new Ron Harper either bc, again, that's not his game. Harper was great bc he was tall and could play the point, especially defensively. He already was more of a "team" player than Iverson even when he was in his prime.Comment
