      Re: The Dwight Howard Thread

Stan Van Gundy confirmed a report that Dwight Howard has asked for him to be fired as head coach of the Magic.

"I was told it was true by people in our management," Van Gundy said.

"They haven't told me anything," Van Gundy said of Orlando management, "and they don't need to. I'm the coach right now, and I'm the coach until they decide I'm not the coach. It's 12:02 right now. If they want to fire me at 12:05, I'll go home and find something to do. I'll have a good day."

Van Gundy confirmed a WKMG-TV report that Howard is pushing for him to be fired.

Howard appeared taken aback when informed of Van Gundy's disclosure.

"Whatever happens at the end of the season is not under my control. I am a player for the Magic. I am not the GM. I am not (owner) Rich DeVos. I am not (president) Alex Martins. That is not my job. ... I haven't said anything to anybody about anything.

"I woke up just like you did yesterday, and I saw all of a sudden I want Stan out of here. Why would I want Stan to be fired with 12 games left in the season? Who's going to be the coach?"

      Way to go Dwight

        Lets see

"Whatever happens at the end of the season is not under my control. I am a player for the Magic. I am not the GM. I am not (owner) Rich DeVos. I am not (president) Alex Martins. That is not my job. ... I haven't said anything to anybody about anything.

        There you have it

"I can't fire him, but I can suggest he be fired since they gave me the okay to tell them what decision to make"

"Why would I ask them to do it with 12 games left, but if its the end of the season... I told them do away with him as YOU please, that way, I can just say management did it not me"

See, I know how to play this game Dwight

You never once defended the man

        All you said was

"I am a player for the Magic"

        No doubt about it

          This entire situation...

Not that they're a good basketball team anyway, but now I really don't expect them to even compete with a team like Atlanta should they meet. Chicago or Miami should dispatch Orlando after all this crap.

I can see it now... NBA on ESPN next year, 3 man booth: Mike Breen and the Van Gundy brothers.

I would LOVE to see even just ONE game called with the two.

I feel for Stan Van. This is two stops in a row dude is getting ****ed over. Guess center's just don't like him. At least he isn't just taking any unexpected vacations this time.

                      Re: The Dwight Howard Thread

                      1.
He's turned rags + Dwight into a constant punches chance at the very least in the East.
Is that what Mike Brown did in Cleveland? Turned Lebron and his scrubs(Let's be fair, the talent around Duhwight were FAR from scrubs/rags. Now if you want to criticize their contracts, then that's fair game)or was that ALL Lebron's work?

                      2.
His offense is far superior in that he knows how to utilize inside out play. He knows how to use his bigs in PnR situations.
And that's also because he's had the perfect personnel for that Offense considering outside of Duhwight, he's had no other real big man(aka post up threat) and just a team full of shooters. And we all seen what happened with that Offense once Atlanta of all teams shut that down.

                      3.
Utilizes talent much better. Not to mention the defensive end with poor defenders outside of Dwight.
You're making it sound like SVG has coached a bunch of scrubs though. Didn't Mike Brown do this in Cleveland or was that ALL Lebron?

                      4.
Mike Brown is getting credit for Drew having career numbers when it's really just Drew freelancing in the post and being talented. The last few weeks with Sessions have helped, but really its just using high PnR and Sessions making plays.
You could've just said Mike Brown doesn't deserve much credit at all for what the Lakers are doing.

In summary, they're both 2 of the best defensive coaches in the NBA without question. Offensively, they're OK but nothing really special(Impossible to find ANY Coach who can be great on Offense AND Defense). If I had put them in categories, I'd say they're both 2nd tier Coaches(1st tier are Pop and Rivers and MAYBE Thibs but depends on what he does this postseason)but it's not like there's a significant gap between the two, which was my point.

Well, he finally had it on Thursday, and he stood there, stunned, stammering and waiting for someone to save him. Everyone could’ve lived with this unpleasant truth, this behind-the-scenes reality, but Dwight Howard had to keep playing make-believe in the Magic Kingdom.

I don't agree with that part.. the guy just stayed in denial mode

                        Dwight: "Naw IT WASN"T ME"

And since Day 1, Duhwight has nobody else to blame but himself for this. This basically confirms that story that came out around the trade deadline about where Duhwight opts in, they'll give him the power to fire both the Coach AND GM.

I would say a stupid decision like that would be on the owner for weilding that kind of authority to a player

This is just starting to get sad Dwight says he thinks this team can win but he wants to fire Stan, NBA players are just getting too much control over the front office.

But anyways I really don't think stan cares if the magic fire him their will be 29 other teams waiting their to sign him and with his reputation he would get signed in a heartbeat.
