True. That and he probably didn't want LAs fans to "dislike" him (on the record we'd burn his jerseys and such ala the decision). Too much blood on his hands.

Drewski beat me to it, but that's pretty much it. If he got traded to the Lakers, then it would mean the Magic fans would hate him for not staying in Orlando, meanwhile when walking from LA to NJ of all places (sorry Pack) he'd be hated by Laker fans and clowned even more by the national media for leaving LA for NJ. There was some logic used, just the bare minimum.

          Re: The Dwight Howard Thread

The whole trade to LAL situation sounds like B.S. to me. Why would the Lakers trade away Bynum(who's closed the gap on Howard and is right on his heels for best C) just to rent Dwight for less than half a season. If either Howard or his representation aren't smart enough to realise he had all the power in this situation neither belongs in any business. It's more to it than him simply not wanting to go to the Lakers.

Number may not tell the whole story ,but they never lie either.

LA was never going to trade Bynum for a half season rental

Im glad that train has come and gone, but unless ORL has a change of heart in the summer, we'll be doing this all over again next year

                        Re: The Dwight Howard Thread

According to sources, the Magic threatened to trade Dwight to the Lakers if he didn't sign a contract to opt-in. It said he really didn't want to go to Los Angeles but if he didn't opt-in they would have pulled the trigger and sent him to L.A. I read this on foxsportswest.com

Earlier in the season I would have loved to trade Bynum for Howard (the trade would have also included Steve Blake [who I really want off the team] and Devin Ebanks) but I honestly think Bynum is a better player than Howard. I might be a bit biased, and completely out of my mind, but Dwight has very limited post moves, whereas Bynum has an arsenal of moves, and has improved his shooting ability, occasionally knocking down fadeaways from the post. Although Bynum isn't near the defensive player Howard is, he's almost unstoppable offensively, his only downside being his immaturity which has cost the team games. He's 2 years younger and if I were to build a franchise around one of the two, I would choose Bynum.

Like that article said, there's no way both of them are around next year because even if you fire SVG and bring in someone else, everyone will just about know who runs things.

The whole LA Rental deal doesn't seem true, mainly because LA's Front Office isn't THAT stupid(I think to even do that)but everything else is just about consistent with what we've heard prior to this latest episode.

So in other words Dwight wants someone who's a "yes" man as head coach.

Otis Smith came out and said that Dwight never asked for Van Gundy to be fired.
