Re: Could Dwight Be Playing Somewhere Else Next Season?

I think Dwight relies too much on memory on what he learned from The Dream like it's a dance class or something. Step 1- pump; Step- 2 fake left; Step 3- spin; etc. That's why it looks so forced or robotic when he does it.

The Dream's moves were based on instinct. You can teach it but if you don't have it...you just don't have it. It may have come from Hakeem's soccer background but he had the best footwork of a big man Ever. You simply cannot replicate what that man had. Can't do it.

I sometimes forget how amazingly smooth & fluid his moves were. Dudes spins & pivots were just sick.

Re: Could Dwight Be Playing Somewhere Else Next Season?

You're right it is instinct, but Dwight doesn't have to be Olajuwon

Dwight has the type of muscle movement like Lebron and Magic... strong and and not so nimble... He has gross motor skilled type movements.. the large muscles are the dominant movements

He's more of a power player than a finesse player so he can't move as good as Olajuwon or do all of that, but he can develop his own go to moves and some counters.

He should look at other guys than just Dream for his post game... while he does need to get that foot work done.. remember he's been trained by Ewing all of these years. He needs to learn how to back down and pick up some stuff like Tim Duncan did throughout his career... it didn't require jumping higher all the time, just being smart

That's the issue. Patrick Ewing was a jump shooter. Even when he backed someone down..it was a turnaround jumper or fade away jumper.

Dwight can't hit a jumper to save his life so I don't know what type of impact the people in Orlando would think he would have.

Dwight might be best working with Shawn Kemp. He spent the off season working with the Center on the 76ers.

Re: Could Dwight Be Playing Somewhere Else Next Season?

Kemp could show him a couple of things true but even he was a nimble big guy

If its strictly post moves without having to do too much running he needs to see Tim Duncan

Re: Could Dwight Be Playing Somewhere Else Next Season?

I think it would still benefit Dwight to do something with his jumpshot. As it stands right now if you take him out of the paint he's pretty much useless unless a rebound bounces out there to him. I'm not saying he needs to go crazy and turn his game into nothing but jump shooting, but he needs to be a bigger threat than simply catching down low and dunking or posting up and running across the lane with the hook or any other move that allows guys to just take the foul slapping his arms to make him earn it from the line where he's even worse.

He can definitely improve on a mid range shot as well as the other things we mentioned. Thats the beauty of it

Re: Could Dwight Be Playing Somewhere Else Next Season?

It would be interesting to see Dwights stats if he played with a superstar pass first pg like CP3 or Rondo etc.

No doubt his game is lacking in many areas offensively (jump shot sucks, post game lacks any real decent footwork etc) but I think if you put him with a CP3 he'd easily up his average by 5-6ppg or so which would make him a top 5 scorer this year.

Re: Could Dwight Be Playing Somewhere Else Next Season?

Dwight's 10-15 ft game has shown steady improvement with last year him hitting at a pretty good clip compared to years past. His footwork will always be mechanical as long as he thinks too hard in the post.

More players like Dwight need to develop a baby hook....

Spend your whole summer working on the touch to pull it off...

Bynum and Gasol are great at it (which
makes Gasols refusal to go down low even more annoying)...Shaq used it his whole career...it's barely block able..

Stuff like that is exactly why I could never be a coach in the NBA. I can imagine these guys drive themselves nuts with those same thoughts. It's so mind numbingly frustrating watching people with the talent and ability to do something and just...not do it. It's like do some of these guys just not have any clue how dangerous they can make themselves with just a few tweaks to their game?

Yeah man.....it's great that your working with legends and everything over the summer, but all you have to do is watch and see what made them successful....be a student of the game and have the drive to improve yourself....

I don't really like either of them, but I give props to Dirk and Kobe for constantly adjusting their games for the better....

Remember when GSW caught in to Dirks half spin in the lane and started doubling every time he did it? Next year, the moves gone (and move he had been doing since he came in he league) and he finds a new way to get buckets...love that kind of stuff..

Its definitely a go to move, but Dwight can't really back anyone down can he?

Yeah, if he puts enough fear in his defender that he can spin off or make a quick move they'll have no choice but to concede a little space....its just another thing hell have to work on....he bounces off of his defenders way too often to be as big as he is...

I agree with you and that's something that I saw Duncan able to do quite a bit, which is why I think he could learn alot from Tim, instead of trying to move around like a big guard as Dream could

Its a classic case of not knowing how to fully use his tools...but since people think Duncan is boring his name has never come up, even though he dominated the heck out of his generation
