I had been going out to play with a couple of guys (actually a couple of guys on OS) on Saturdays for a couple of years. This was in my mid-30s after a few years of not touching a basketball outside of 2k. I was decent enough.

Now as I'm knocking on 40, I see my greatest asset (quickness) leaving me exposed on both ends.

Is it too late to develop a jump shot? Lol

A "shot"? No.

A "jump shot"? Most definitely yes.

I think what makes pick up players so bad is how easy it is to play the sport. Anybody can pick up a ball and make a 3.

You don't have to be athletic to make a 3 point shot and play some pick up ball.

The guy who isn't a good shooter, isn't a good ball handler, is taller than most, but the only thing he does on offense is stand at the top of the key every time down court.

Go stand around the goal and maybe you'll get a easy layup every now and then. At least cut to the basket or move around the key. Don't just stand there. ****.

One of the annoying fools I remember playing with are:

Mr Trick Shot - Every layup or shot is a michael jordan/allen iverson style trick shot. My biggest gripe is when he finally hits one crazy trick shot (after numerous woeful attempts) everyone on his team (and even not on his team!) will 'oooh' and 'aaah'. All this does is encourage him.

The hacker - The guy who thinks he has ninja like hand speed and reflexes and tries to strip the ball at every opportunity, you dribble he tries to poke, you put two hands on the ball he takes massive swipes at the ball (up/down style to get the 'clean' strip) while hacking away at your arms.

Dead Ball Deadeye - The guy who thinks he's Ray Allen, yet he has the worst shooting mechanics and like zero spin on the ball. Just pulls back behind his head and launches line drive 3 point bombs.

The video reminds me that there is nothing worse than when someone invites a new guy to your game and he tries to change up 75% of your house rules. I'm pretty chill these days, but that makes me go into a rage.

Ahhh man they hit me on that one. The guy who uses chest day as an excuse. It's so real though. I stopped playing after chest because I embarrassed myself.

I'd be wide open and just pass up my shot after the first 2-3 don't go in because they're AWFUL. Feel like I'm tossing a golf ball at the rim.

Sparks fond memories of an out-of-towner once responding incredulously when he found out we don't play "grass out" as he stood with the ball between the bench and the sidewalk.

I cant play anymore due to health issues, but me and a some friends use to play in 3 on 3 tournaments, and I had a friend if we got down, he would quit trying, and give up. If we were winning, he was engaged and playing hard, but if we got down, he would mope and whine.

Just in pick up games, where you just played with whoever was there, the guy that was most annoying would be the guy who sucks, but shoots it or turns it over everytime he touches it, and he thinks he also always open,lol.

I've been playing alongside the pointless trick-passer lately. Great guy, affable, but just can't resist foregoing an on-target chest pass for a one-handed, between-the-legs lookaway. Takes three times as long to execute and has a 73 percent lower success rate.
