What ever happened to it being a mans game?

I was just watching a documentary on Michael Jordan and I forgot what season it was but they played the knicks and then the blazers in the finals. But the series with the Knicks went 7 games and was just brutal. There were fights every game, hard fouls and it just was exciting and showed players doing everything to win. And then in game 7 Jordan just came out and took that game away from the Knicks and won it.

A lot of the highlights should Jordan and Pippin and some guys on the opposing teams make layups/dunks while being hit and bumped and there were no fouls. Nowadays if you get touched it is a foul and to me that takes away from the game.

So does anyone know why the NBA starting calling touchy fouls?

other than the heat and knicks setting basketball back 25 years with their blood-feud in the mid-late 90's, the nba decided that they wanted to increase scoring and create a more fan-friendly game. to do this, they cracked down on the defense, lightened up on the offense, and adjusted the rules to make it easier to score points. they basically did what the nfl did. this also ties into wanting to steer away from the perception of mainstream culture being turned off from the game as "thug-ball".

Plus lets not forget that todays players are made of peanut brittle. I dont know if it was the workout regimen, performance enhancing drugs or what in the early days but the80s, 90s players just didn't seem as injured as much as todays players. And this is throughout all sports, not just baskeball.

Because this generation of players are a bunch of wussies, just like this generation of kids are lazy in general. I do think like the one poster said the NBA cracked down on some of this stuff. I personally prefer the old days myself.

Its not the players that got rid of the Hand Check or brought the 3 point line in.

              More Offense More Money

Blame the league, yes. But, the players also have ran with it as well. Rather than putting your head down, driving to the hole and powering through contact, players learn to "act" as if they are hit. They drive to get to the line rather than even try to make the bucket.

On the other side, players flop, because defense isn't rewarded like it once was (too many fouls called to increase scores). So flopping increases defensive efficiency more than going for a hard block.

I don't blame the players because they adapt to what the league gives them and they run with it. But, they are taught to "act" on offense and on defense. The ones who are worse at it, complain to the refs when the calls don't go their way and shut up when it does. Nature of the game that's played now-a-days. I remember the league wanted to crack down on flopping, but honestly, it's a monster of their own creation.

Yeah. Ok. If anything, he's one of the few things RIGHT with the league still, and that's not even me being a Suns homer about it.

I agree with this, Nash is 1 of the toughest guys in the NBA. I don't even like the Suns but Nash is a tough guy and I have a lot of respect for him unlike the majority of that team.

To suceed in your enviroment, you have to adapt...

the league has put these players in a position where they have to do what they have to do to get by...

sure you can be as tough, old school and hardcore as you want to be...but youll have to be content with that personal victory....because your not going to help your team...

LMAO at them MVP pics...they remind me of how watered down the MVP award was then. How in the hell does Nash and Dirk have more MVPs than Kobe and Shaq.
