I don't think their doing Oden a favor on purpose. They will force who ever want him to commit financially. Worse cause situation like you said he's only on the books for one year. It's really a smartvmove by Portland.

These qualifying offers are set amounts based off 125% of the player's previous salary, they aren't decided by the team. So the Clippers aren't being cheap and the Blazers aren't being generous, those are the only amounts they can offer.

Thank you for clarifying that. Clippers cant go over the 125%? That seems a bit skiddish, but I'd only be making assumptions about that portion of the CBA.

Makes sense of the Blazers though, thank you for that.

It's just a qualifying offer. loganone is correct. They have the ability to match any offer that comes in, but a qualifying offer is just that.

Weird, but thats the way it is.

Teams and players can rework their contracts at any time. Right now these guys are restricted free agents. So their current teams have an option to offer them the qualifying offer for the following year. Any team that wants to sign these guys have to make an offer and the teams they're on now can choose to match that offer or let the player go.

Right on I caught that part, but I wasn't aware of the qualifying offer aspect. Whoops.

Ok you were asking if the Clippers could offer DJ more money than the qualifying offer. I was saying that they can only rework a deal to offer more money. By picking up his option they ensure they get the last word.

Ok I believe I'm following. Just find it odd Clips couldn't outright offer more than the qualifying offer I'd they wanted to to try and dictate his value and see if he wanted to stay for whatever that amount was they offered.

I like it they already have the option to negotiate a deal at anytime, plus can match any teams offer. Letting them change the qualifying offer would be a huge advantage.

                      NY Knicks.......

Forward Derrick Brown got his qualifying offer today, remaining restricted. The Knicks can match, but won't if he is offered a two-year deal because they want to protect their 2012 cap space.

Damn, I really hoped he would choose to stay... Is he worth over-paying to try to keep him?

Really like Nene but don't think he's "over-pay" good. I guess it would depend on how much over market vaule you would have to pay him. Speaking for the franchise I support I would say no to Nene I think with such a weak list of FA's he's going to be severely over-paid.

Just filed to ESPN.com: Cavaliers and Kings in advanced discussions on a J.J. Hickson-for-Omri Casspi deal. Link on the way
