I'd think they'd be fine with settling for like Eric Gordon who helped them in the Worlds, but I too have my injury concerns for himSaints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment

I'm trying to remember but aren't we the only country that values the Olympics over the FIBA tournament? As long as we're sending our best to whatever tournament is considered best I don't really care."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Re: Team USA 2012
I personally hope Wade opts out of the Olympics. He's been having problems with his knees all year and he sure doesn't need to jeopardize his health even further.
I'd also like to see Bosh take a year off to make sure his abdominal injury is fully healed.
I would say the same for LeBron but I know he's going to play either way. He has one heck of a motor and I think it'll give him some quality time to work on his post moves and jump shot.
Whatever happens I hope our boys win again this year. There's nothing like representing your country in a foreign land and kicking some ***.Comment

Re: Team USA 2012
I thought USA was planning on sending like an Under 23 squad to participate in the FIBA Tournaments anyway or was that just something being thrown around?#RespectTheCultureComment

My mistake on the Davis part.
He is on there, just unlikely he'll make the actual team according to Colangelo.#RespectTheCultureComment

I'm sure Rondo won't play either by his own choosing. I also doubt Aldridge plays after his bout with that blood disease.
Hopefully Eric Gordon or another shooter will make the team.Comment

Re: Team USA 2012
Blake Griffin, Lamar Odom and Anthony Davis will be spending the July 4th holiday with Team USA coach Mike Krzyzewski, auditioning for spots on this summer's Olympic team one day before the official start of training camp.
USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo told ESPN.com that an earlier plan to have Griffin and Odom get their health status updated and work out for Krzyzewski and the rest of the coaching staff on the Duke campus this week was scrapped and replaced by the new schedule, which will bring all three big men into Las Vegas just ahead of the July 5 reporting date for the other 15 healthy players on the roster.
Season-ending injuries suffered by Orlando's Dwight Howard (back), and Portland's LaMarcus Aldridge (knee) have opened up a spot for one of this diverse trio of frontcourt candidates.
Griffin is an All-Star power forward at 23 trying to break through with the national team despite late-season knee trouble. Odom is a 32-year-old with experience playing power forward and center who's trying to resurrect his career after a lost season with the Dallas Mavericks. And Davis, 19, is a lock to be selected with the No. 1 overall pick in Thursday's draft by the New Orleans Hornets after the Kentucky center was the consensus college player of the year.
The official 12-man USA roster, after a deadline extension from the U.S. Olympic Committee, will be announced after the July 7 practice, which means that Krzyzewski and Colangelo will have only a session or two to get a look at the players in camp.
Howard, Aldridge, Derrick Rose (knee) and Chauncey Billups (Achilles) have already been lost to injury, while Miami's Dwyane Wade -- another prominent member of the original 20-man preliminary roster released in January -- might be forced to withdraw after completing a long championship run through the playoffs on a weakened left knee.
Colangelo told ESPN.com that Wade is definitely reporting to Vegas next week, but described his playing status as "up in the air" until Wade can consult further with doctors after helping the Heat beat the Oklahoma City Thunder in the NBA Finals.
"We've been talking about a lot of the what-ifs," Colangelo said of a lengthy staff meeting conducted Tuesday.
The only healthy big men regarded as sure bets for the final roster are Miami's Chris Bosh, New York's Tyson Chandler and Minnesota's Kevin Love. It's believed that at least one more big man will be added from the trio of Griffin, Odom and Davis, who is the only Team USA invitee with no NBA experience.
USA Basketball officials, however, are confident they will be covered no matter what against most teams they face this summer because New York's Carmelo Anthony, Oklahoma City's Kevin Durant and Miami's LeBron James can all play power forward in the international game.#RespectTheCultureComment
