Re: The evaluation of Kobe Bryant
There are scores of artists who can perfectly replicate many of Da Vinci's best works. But they will never be considered with anywhere near the regard that he is. KB's mistake was trying replicate so much of Jordan's game. Hels gotten closer than anyone be he'll never be looked at in his own light because of it. If LBJ starts ti win rings his legacy will outshine KB's partly due to the fact that his game is noticably different from what we've seen before. Its like covering well known songs, if you decide to do it your version needs to be noticably better than the original in order for the undertaking to be worth it. Being marginally better or just as good doesnt cut it when you werent the originator. KB suffers from being just short. Part of that is due to his attitude early on and some of has to do with him not being as physically gifted. It may not be entirely fair to him but its the reality.Comment

Re: The evaluation of Kobe Bryant
Well, "wwharton" I was trying to refrain from being a dick, but it takes one to talk to one. So please, enlighten me, and give me some legitimate reasoning as to how Kobe Bryant, the player of the decade "pales" in comparison to Michael Jordan. "Pales" is a strong word.Comment

Re: The evaluation of Kobe Bryant
even if we relent the opinion that "pales" is an overstatement, which some might not agree with, the truth is that jordan is better than kobe. is there an argument to be made? if you choose to make it, there is, but michael will win the argument.xbox gt - bmorerep87

Ok, mambafan... 420, we'll just have to agree to disagree, lol. Though your judgement may be a bit clouded.
You know it makes more sense to just appreciate Kobe for what he is and has been. He's had an amazing NBA career, and his share of rings, awards and accomplishments all to his own. He's not the best ever and never will be, and comparing him to the best just paints him in a bad light. He does pale in comparison to MJ, but he shines in comparison to 99% of everybody else. That should be good enough.#1 Laker fan

Re: The evaluation of Kobe Bryant
This argument is literally going to go back and forth, so we're going to have to agree to disagree. The two players never played each other in their primes, so we aren't going to ever know who's better. Talk about the numbers and awards all day, but there is no legitimate evidence to prove that MJ is better than Kobe, or even Vice-versa for that matter. But to say that MJ is just in another class from Kobe altogether is blasphemy.
Also,
MJ 1039 games, 49.7%FG, 32.7%3pt, 83.5%FT, 32,292Pts, 6,672Reb, 5,633Ast, 2,514Stl
KB 1103 games, 45.4%FG, 33.9%3pt, 83.7%FT, 27,868Pts, 5,829Reb, 5,154Ast, 1,653Stl
- MJ accomplished more statistically and award-wise in 76 less games (nearly one full season) than KB.
- MJ won 6 rings in 6 consecutive full seasons.
- MJ is the mold Kobe has always tried to fill (admittedly so).
- MJ was the undisputed leader of every team he was on. KB wasn't until after Shaq left.
- KB will be 33 when the season starts. MJ played 4 seasons from that age on (300 games), so 1/4 of the stats above are taken from times in MJ's career that KB hasn't reached yet in terms of age.
- Two of those seasons were 96-97 and 97-98. During those two seasons, he won MVP once and Finals MVP twice.
- The last two seasons he was between 38-40 and still averaged 20-6-5. KB's career averages are 25-5-5.
Kobe is still one of the best in the league, but he's not, never has been, and never will be as good as MJ.Last edited by slimm44; 12-17-2011, 11:46 AM.Acts 2:38. Let the truth be told.

Not trying to pile on, but when has Kobe ever been a high percentage shooter? He's a volume scorer, who has always had poor shot selection. His high skill level and great athleticism has allowed him to convert at a respectable rate. His loss of elevation will only make those perimeter shots more difficult.
Oh, and he doesn't have the best post skills in the NBA. That title belongs with Al Jefferson, Pau Gasol, Zach Randolph or LaMarcus Aldridge. Special mention still goes out to Tim Duncan, who has forgotten/lost more moves in his arsenal than these guys have combined.

Re: The evaluation of Kobe Bryant
The progression of every Kobe Bryant thread:
Laker Homers: KOBE IS SO GOOD OMFGZZZZZ!!!
Laker Haters: Kobe sucks.
Kobe D-Riders under 21: KOBEZZ IS THE G.O.A.T.!!
*Jordan comparisons begin, Arguing ensues because Kobe lovers have no evidence to prove otherwise*
Thread dies.
