Re: Official POST-LOCKOUT Player Movement Thread (Trades, FAs, etc)
Dallas has a somewhat tough decision to make. Chandler isnt a superstar but he's the perfect compliment to Dirk and was obviously essential to the championship. However, Dallas can put themselves in position to go after a superstar like Deron Williams or Dwight Howard next year if they dont resign Chandler to a superstar contract. Bringing in someone like DWilliams as Dirk hits 35 and JKidd retires would be perfect timing.
Personally, I hope they bring Chandler back (as well as Caron Butler and JJ), as long as he's not asking for a max type of deal. If he does go crazy and ask for anything close to max, then the Mavs have to let him go and use Haywood/Mahimi this season. Chandler is in a good spot with Dallas, and he fits better with the Mavs than probably any other team, so hopefully he's not determined to leave. Hopefully, there isnt another team dumb enough to offer him a max deal and I dont think Miami has the cap situation to offer him what Dallas will anyway.Last edited by ZB9; 12-01-2011, 02:37 PM.Comment

Still though, Dirk needs a center who can rebound and guard the other team's best post player. If he doesn't get that, even with D. Williams and a few other perimeter players, that wouldn't be enough to contend for a title IMO.
What are you thoughts on if Nene signs with Dallas ZB or any other Dallas fans? Could they still go after Deron?Comment

Just retire, smh. Cuz once he gets healthy, and plays awful again, all I'm going to read is "oh well, you know the hernia is still bothering him, and his wrist, yeah he had wrist surgery a few years ago, that's why his shot has been off".Comment

As for Dwill, I think it was fairly obvious that he wasn't sold on the blueprint for successComment

Looks like Deron not signing the extension is going to kill the Nets chances of landing Dwight as well.I have more respect for a man who let's me know where he stands, even if he's wrong. Than the one who comes up like an angel and is nothing but a devil. - Malcolm XComment

I've never seen someone hurt in so many different places before lol
Never can be too sure w/ hernia injurys....he's definitely gone.
Sucks for them, he had a heck of a skillset...Comment

Had is definitely the key word there. Dude's been regressing for years, mostly mentally. And yes the injuries play a big part, it is what it is. He's not a player you can depend upon as any of your top 7 rotation players if you're trying to get a title.Comment

Re: Official POST-LOCKOUT Player Movement Thread (Trades, FAs, etc)
Well I'd do the same as D-Will too if it meant making an extra $25m overall.
Al Iannazzone of The Record writes: "Williams can get a two-year extension from the Nets for roughly $39 million that would be tacked on to the two years, $31 million he has remaining on his deal. If Williams opts out after the season, he could get five years and about $101 million from the Nets, or four years and $73 million from another team."Comment

Re: Official POST-LOCKOUT Player Movement Thread (Trades, FAs, etc)
Bringing in Williams would set the franchise up for a while and keep them as contenders. It would be quite a gamble though obviously because there is no telling what Williams will do but it's good to have options and good to think ahead.
Still though, Dirk needs a center who can rebound and guard the other team's best post player. If he doesn't get that, even with D. Williams and a few other perimeter players, that wouldn't be enough to contend for a title IMO.
Bringing back Chandler increases their odds of winning another championship but I dont agree with you about DWilliams. Bringing in a player like Williams would increase the odds even more imo. Chandler is a very solid player obviously, but he's not a superstar. Dirk playing with another superstar would be more trouble for the league and Dallas is going to need to bring in another superstar in the next few years because Dirk is 33.
What are you thoughts on if Nene signs with Dallas ZB or any other Dallas fans? Could they still go after Deron?
If they sign Chandler to a superstar deal, it will take a creative sign and trade to bring in Williams or any other marquee FA. It will still be possible but not nearly as ideal. It will be interesting to see what Donnie Nelson does. Hopefully Chandler is realistic in his contract demands and the Mavs bring him back. It will truly suck if they dont. They will contend either way, but the odds will be better with Chandler starting than with Haywood.
Personally, I hope the Mavs keep both Chandler and Haywood. Perhaps they can amnesty Haywood next season if they discover that they have a realistic chance at DWilliams or Dwight.Last edited by ZB9; 12-01-2011, 03:14 PM.Comment
