Re: Official POST-LOCKOUT Player Movement Thread (Trades, FAs, etc)

I swear some of ya'll read too much into things it's not even funny

Ya'll don't think we didn't know that would be a possibility once we got him? He even said when he first got here that he wouldn't sign right away.

Has nothing to do with as Kash wrongfully stated the "Blueprint For Success" or it has nothing to do with him being unhappy(because by all assurances everything that has came out of HIS mouth has been nothing but positive for the team, not to mention when he first got here he said that HE would be doing some recruiting for us as well).

Makes no sense for him to sign an extension right now because if he does it would only be a two year extension for $39 mil added on to his remaining 2 years. If he opts out in June and resigns with us, he could get 5 years for $101 Mil and 4 years $73 Mil from someone else. Makes sense for HIM to do that and not resign right away.

    Now
And since we all love to trust the "sources" mouth from time to time on here:

But they quote "one source close to Deron Williams" as saying it's unlikely that he would consider signing with the Mavericks unless he was joining both Dirk Nowitzki and Chandler.
Woosah time to breathe again lol

      Good post ZB

I can't disagree with anything you said there.

And Pack I agree with you as well. DWill could still get the most money from the Nets right?

Deron would be an idiot to sign the extension and leave money on the table. If the team does at least something to improve the roster, I think he stays for the extra money and the chance to open the arena in Brooklyn. At worst he still has Lopez, at best he could have Dwight Howard with him. But I think either way it's Brooklyn or Dallas. Can't see him going anywhere else.

@ Ex-Yup he would get the most from us if he resigns with us in the summer that's why it makes no sense for him to do this now.

Unfortunately the downfall from this is now I gotta hear from all the talking heads now until the end of the season on about how Deron is going to leave and go to the Knicks(as the NY Media likes to hype up)and it's also going to be interesting on how this affects him recruiting players.

Signing FA won't be a problem because of the fact SOMEBODY out there is going to want to get paid and they're going to see the Nets' Situation IE Cap Space and then sign so I'm not too worried about that at all.

          EDIT:

          Al_Iannazzone Al Iannazzone
Though #Nets expect Deron to opt out, he could re-sign. They’re going to BKN, have $$$$$, and as source said “he can pick his teammates.”

Chris Paul’s agent informed New Orleans officials on Wednesday that his client will not sign a contract extension and wants to be traded to the New York Knicks, league sources told Yahoo! Sports. Yahoo! Sports

Looks like Paul's agent is part of the NY Media, trying to hype up more knicks trade speculation

Well, David West is all but gone then, with that news on CP3.

Which means, buh bye to NO's current core of players.

Looks like Indy could be get themselves a nice big man to compliment Granger.

How is CP3 going to fit with the Knicks cap-wise? They already got two max players. Can they really afford 3? Or will the Knicks just play 3-on-3 NBA Jam style?

He would have to take a pay cut. Simple as that.

Unless the Knicks decide to amnesty one of the other two.

They can afford the 3(although CP3 wouldn't be on a max)but the only problem is filling out the rest of the roster, especially when the cap is supposed to be at/around $58 Mil.

Ya'll boy Shaq on Rondo vs CP3:

There's a balance every analyst much find between saying things that get people talking but also saying things that aren't completely ridiculous. Charles Barkley is very good at this. Shaquille O'Neal, who is new at this analyst thing, is working on it. Obviously.

Exhibit A, via Sports Radio Interviews, when asked about the Rajon Rondo rumors:
“I said to myself a long time ago from sitting here watching…I saw Patrick Ewing get traded. I saw Dominique Wilkins get traded. Everyone is tradeable, you could probably get a lot for Rajon Rondo but he is the heart and soul of the team. I don’t think that would be a good idea.

If I was the general manager, I wouldn’t do it. [Hosts: You would not do it?] No. [Hosts: Even if it was for Chris Paul?] Chris Paul is not better than Rajon Rondo… Rajon Rondo is the true definition of a point guard, period. He gets everybody involved and he scores when he has to. Chris Paul scores a lot of points, but when was the last time they made it to the playoffs? Thank you very much.”
OK, let's dig in to this. First of all Shaq, Chris Paul made it to the playoffs just last season. The year before that, the Hornets didn't make it pretty much only because CP3 was hurt. And in last year's playoffs, they pushed the Lakers to six games and nearly pulled a major stunner. But I guess you missed that.

And since when is Chris Paul not in the "point guard" definition? It's like people almost inflate Rondo's point guardness because he doesn't score. It's like since he doesn't have the same well-rounded offensive ability of say a CP3 or Deron Williams and really has most his value in passing, that people assume that makes him a TRUE point guard, whatever that is. You're telling me Chris Paul isn't a true point guard because he scores too much? What planet am I on right now?

Last season, Paul averaged 15.9 points and 9.8 assists per game. Rondo averaged 10.6 points and 11.2 assists per game. For their careers, Paul is averaging 18.7 points and 9.9 assists per game. Rondo, 10.7 points, 7.6 assists. But I shouldn't even have to go there. I mean, who really would think that a) Rondo is better than Chris Paul and b) that Rondo is more of a point guard than CP3? I can't get over this.

Now Shaq played with Rondo last season so he's probably friends with him, but when you become an analyst, that stuff is out the window. You've got to tell it like it is.

                              Oh, hang on.
“I am just going to tell the truth. I am not going to bash anybody. I don’t like what you did in a particular game…I am gonna say it. I am not going to try to embarrass anybody, but you know just tell it like it is.”
Well nevermind. Maybe he just doesn't have any idea what he's talking about.
