There isn't technically a franchise tag, but there is a guy that you can designate as a special player and gives them a ton more money. It benefits those who can grow their own super stars.

And like I said, after 2 years, the amount of this stuff will fade. S&T's will be done, and players won't be able to demand where they go without a pay cut. The owners gave up on the <del>bitch</del> LeBron generation and are trying to help the Derrick Rose generation

Quick question: HOW DOES THIS TRADE REALLY CHANGE ANYTHING THIS YEAR?

Seriously, the Lakers were contenders with or w/o Paul. NO wasn't a contender with Paul. Boston was a contender with or w/o Paul. So was NY. The only thing this did was slightly increase the Lakers chances (it also took away their best post player and best bench player).

OKC is still a contender. SA is still a contender. Dal are the champs and they are still contenders. Chicago is still a contender. How the hell is Chicago or Dallas or OKC feeder teams for those four? Dallas won the championship last year.

Every year there will be 8-10 that could win the championship. Same this year.

              Wow............................................... .......

It's actually a good deal for NO. They go from potential catastrophe in 12 months to a solid 7th type seed with some nice pieces to move.

For all the people saying they could have got more........wrong. Chris Paul would not have signed an extension with teams like Golden State (whose offer was better)...so, NO had very, very little bargaining power.

              Decent move for them.

LA wins big overall obviously though in a league wide sense.

-I hate this deal, I really wanted to keep Gasol. I'm hoping this isn't true. Guess I have to wait till tomorrow to see.

Seriously trading Gasol to Rockets and Odom to Hornets DECIMATES our big man rotation...

I don't think this makes the Lakers a better team. What do yall think?
Odom, Scola and Martin as opposed to Rondo?

                I'm not buying it.

But it's whatever at this point. No one is really surprised.

It's just trading away the best and pretty much only player fans in N.O. come out to see for garbage is a bit disheartening coming off a lockout.

I really don't give a crap but I completely understand the disdain for the NBA.

I don't think it does. Nothing taken from Paul. He's a great player but I've already read that Brown is going to run a lot of triangle sets. Maybe he changes focus now. He'd be smart to, but then again this is the guy who's offensive schemes with one of the best players on Earth was Iso.

Paul's ability on offense is severely limited in the triangle. I also think it makes little sense to have Paul on a team with a ball hog. That's why I didn't care for Paul in New York.

Don't take me wrong, I would have been excited to have Paul in New York but how would that work with Melo? How does Paul work with Kobe?

I don't see it. I could be wrong. But if people point to Paul's increased assists, I hope they know that isn't the only reason you acquire Chris Paul and evidently pay him top player money.

Kobe and Bynum are upgrades, but Bynum is injury prone and Kobe is aging and not much more than a spot up shooter.

The rest of the Lakers are ****. But, CP3 knows how to get players in their optimal position to score, so who knows?

That'd make it way worse. I still just don't get why all of these guys are talking about cities like Brooklyn/Toronto/San Francisco/OKC/Milwaukee as if they were these middle-of-nowhere places with populations under 500.

AT BEST we might see a team like OKC have one year where they put it all together and win a title, but it will be almost impossible for any team other than LAL/MIA/BOS/NYK to have a sustained run. We went from in the 90's/00's having teams like the Magic, Sonics, Nets, Rockets, and Jazz reach the Finals multiple times to now these superstar players acting as if they're too good for these cities...no idea what changed.

I disagree, your forgetting about the Mavericks, Bulls, Grizziles, and OKC.
You might be able to include the Bulls into the group of teams the rest of the league is being fed to, but the other three will fade away in time. Nobody is going to want to play in Oklahoma City (even with Durant and Bad Russ) because it gets portrayed as this rinky dink city with no mainstream exposure....same with Memphis. Dallas will always have good teams, but they'll always be a "fallback option" team behind the Lakers, Heat, Knicks, Celtics, and maybe Bulls.
