Odom has no trade value left IMO. He's pouting and won't even show up for Lakers camp. Who wants that kind of head case who doesn't want to leave LA at $9MM? Odom doesn't want to be traded and will obviously become a problem for any team who trades for him. So I'm not sure how the LAL handle that now.

I think Scola, Odom, Dragic and Martin are a great haul for Paul and Ariza or Okafor. Hornets get decent talent and cut cost (now that this matters all of a sudden).

You don't think the Lakers would be absolutely raping everyone by trading Gasol and whatever is left of Odom for one of the top 5 players in the NBA and another good starter?

IKR, I don't think the Buss Family cares about saving money in a trade...it would have just been icing on the cake (although how good a cake that removes our frontline is is questionable lol)

The idea is that the NOH/HOU trade would have freed up the cap room for the Lakers to go trade for Howard.

No they would not, you make it sound like we giving up Kwame and smush for CP3 and a good starter. You act like we'd be stacked with a front line of Ariza/Okafor and Bynum.

I didn't know you could "rape" a team by giving away a top 3 PF in the league and the reigning 6th man of the year. If thats rape, what was the Gasol/Kwame Brown trade?

Exactly so give us ariza or Okafor if the league is going to try and block us from getting Howard. THen we would have less cap space.

See that's the thing.... Gilbert & the other small marker owners want the Lakers to spend because the higher the Lakers payroll the more $$ that they get from luxury tax.

Then you throw the extra 16 million in salaries that New Orleans would be acquiring from the new players and the owners are getting hit with a double whammy.

I see their point, but in my opinion they can't just undo this and Stern will eventually be forced to let the trade go through.

I seriously doubt Gilbert cares about the money.

But thats red herring. No matter how this happens, the Lakers can work where they could trade for both players. The Lakers didn't need cap room for that. Especially when getting Howard and Paul means removing 4 of their 5 highest paid players (Odom, Gasol, Bynum and Artest). Also, I don't think Otis is trading Bynum for Bynum and Artest alone.

Except that Odom effectively killed any trade value he had.
