    Re: Jeremy Lin

I think most people comparing him to Tebow are comparing the amount of hype, not the circumstances surrounding said hype. Sportscenter is about to do a Top 10 Jeremy Lin Moments segment. The hype level after such a small amount of games in pretty damn high, not for the same reason though.

Maybe the amount of hype is comparable, but the reasons they are receiving it are totally different in nature.

Thought about Warner a couple days ago but didn't mention it.

          Re: Jeremy Lin

His story is more like Warner but his hype is more like Tebow. It's a bit of a reach to bring up Tebow being a Heisman winner as a reason why the hype isn't the same. People wanted Tebow to start and they talked about him no doubt, but the non-stop Tebow ticker, talk about Tebow every two minutes, Tebowmania garbage didn't start until the Broncos started winning.

I came here looking especially for a thread about Jeremy to already be composed.... I've never hated the hype and propaganda of a player so much until Jeremy has come along. People are just becoming filled with stupidity when speaking about him. I just recently glanced at an article titled "Joba can relate to Jeremy Lin..." Come on..... A guy tweeted at me: "The next Vince Carter?" 5 games Jeremy has started and I feel like Jeremy is being treated as this is his fifth year in his prime that we don't know about yet.

I personally feel that this is worse than the Tebow saga... Just look at that picture of SportsCenter, Tebow didn't get that...

Goodness, ESPN is the epitome of yellow press.

And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

i guess it only takes 10 games or so these days to annoint someone a star (or at least give them media coverage that is usually reserved for stars)... im happy he is doing well an for the knicks sake i really hope they can ride this momentum for the rest of this season but common sense an years of watching /playing ball tells me that eventually the hot streak will fade an then the true story on this guy will be written, an thats whether or not he is a starting caliber point in the NBA... i know that the rockets/warriors GM's say they made a mistake but does anyone actually think Lin is better than curry, ellis, martin and lowry? he got cut for a reason... the points are nice but once melo comes back lin is not gonna be putting up 20 shots a night anymore cause 3 people cant get that many shots a night (just ask bosh)... so by extension that means hes gonna have to be more of a distributer an definitely cut down on the turnovers cause 30 in six games is not impressive at all especially when you consider thats the stat that drives people crazy about westbrooks game... i know it sounds like i dont like the guy but that couldnt be farther from the truth, i just cant hop on someones bandwagon before its been proven consistently for at least a year or two

I'm glad he's inspiration to the asian community, but the Jeremey Lin hype is affecting my gym time right now. Usually I go and ball and I'm one of the few asians that are regulars that play, usually there's about 10-15 guys if that there playing pick up games. I go the other day and I thought they were having an asian basketball league game there. Literally 35+ asian kids in there balling. I was so pissed I couldn't get even get in one game.

Actually, I must say, the Joba hype is much more similar to the Lin hype than someone like Tebow.

Joba burst onto the stage out of nowhere and was ridiculously electric and the stadium went nuts everytime he came in there. The national attention might not have been as crazy, but certainly in NY is was out of control (and as a Yankees fan, a lot of fun regardless lol)

Obviously, Lin's career path may turn out very differently than Joba's has, but in that moment in time, the Joba situation certainly mirrors that of Lin's more than most other comparisons.

alljuicedup i was born an still live in nyc and the joba comparison is one i hadnt thought of but now that u mention it i think your dead-on and thats why i cant understand how people see such a small sample size and start making utterly ridiculous statements such as asking "should lin be in the all-star game this season?" "is lin in the top 10 point guard discussion?" i honestly saw posts where people are saying hes better than chris paul, rondo, rose, etc. (my own personal opinion is that espn should only be allowed 4 hours of programming a day so people dont see the same highlight 61 times in one hour a la blake griffin, so then there wont be this mania for every unexpected success story)

so im convinced, he may not be able to keep up the scoring numbers but he should be able to run the offense efficiently and get at least 7 assists per game. Now all he has to do is bring down his Turnovers #s
