Again, if he wasn't Asian American and he didn't play in NY, nobody would care. Shoot, Brandon Jennings was doing his thing for a while but not too many people noticed that and why? Because he plays in Milwaukee.
Here's the difference, Brandon Jennings was ludicrously hyped before he started playing in the NBA, has a team built around him, and has been expected, since he came into the league, to be THE GUY for the Bucks, be their scorer. He also comes across as pretty damn cocky.

Jeremy Lin barely even got on the Mavs Summer League team after being drafted, spent a season with the Warriors where he was mostly on the D-league or the bottom of the bench, spent the lockout working his tail off, got cut by the Warriors, cut by the Rockets, signed by the Knicks, sent to the D-league, comes back up and leads his team, out of nowhere, to 4 straight wins and puts up ridiculous numbers, all without the team's supposed two best players and two of the best players in the league period. And it helps that he's the first Asian-American to ever play, he plays in New York and he went to Harvard. He's also incredibly humble.

Its the ultimate underdog story and I don't understand why that's so hard to get for some of you guys. Its completely different from Derrick Rose or Brandon Jennings or anybody like them.

LMAO this guy is just everywhere! He's trending on the NBA2K board the NBA board. Do we have a favorite asian athlete thread? Gotta give him his props tonight though, He finally played against a good team, and had his best game yet.

I seriously doubt he continues this torrid pace, but this a fun story. Forget the comparisons and the doom and gloom future, he's the sole reason the Knicks are winning, and that's all that matters. Yellow Mamba +1 to the Black Mamba. (Yes I realize that the yellow mamba is a terrible nickname, but it was necessary for that.)

          Or is that too high/unrealistic?

I am sorry PPM, but if I used the "black" card as much as you have used the "asian" card, I would be completely flamed about racism. I don't want to turn this into a race discussion, but come on...His NUMBERS not his RACE are doing the talking. Sure, there aren't a lot of asian NBA players. Hardly ANY.

But, if a black golfer came into the PGA scene and was tearing it up, and I said something like "people are only talking about him because he's black" Or an even better example, "Obama only won because he is black and from Chicago" I would immediately be called racist. Don't abuse double standards, please. And let me add that I know you weren't being racist intentionally, but if you twist things slightly and copy/paste a different race into the equation and things change.

But basically guys, throw Lin in the trash because this happens ALL the time, and it's only because he is Asian. Don't have any fun rooting for an underdog who is overachieving because it'll be over before you know it, so why waste your time? I don't get why OS is always 0 or 10. There are places in between, guys.

With Lin, Amar'e, and a healthy Melo, the Knicks will dominate the NBA. Baron better get used to the role of sixth man.

              Re: Jeremy Lin

I am a Lin fan but I will point out the biggest flaw I see in his game since everyone just wants to point out the good stuff.

Defense: Way too often I see him out of position and sagg off his guy to double a BIG who doesn't need doubling and alot of times he looks out of position or lost. He is lucky Fisher and Blake weren't hitting their shots or they weren't getting the ball passed to them. If he does this to PG's like Rose or guys that can shoot the rock it will not be pretty.

With that said I have a feeling Melo is gonna F things up for NY and I wouldn't be surprised if he is going to be the cancer. I really hope Jeremy Lin become successful and hope D'Antoni coach him up to be like Steve Nash was with the Suns a few years back.

Good point, so let me reiterate. They will become a much more improved team.

Not going to ignore like it's NOT a reason when it is, whether you want to believe it or not.

I wouldn't say that. Lin came in during the injury period so i'd say you can see how important a legit point guard is. Especially in dantoni's system.

If they go back to sucking come monday, and then when melo is back, you can say it then I guess. lol

So you have a problem with the publicity? Because none of the factors you mentioned take away from the numbers in any way.

It's definitely a factor, no question about it. IMO, the bigger factors are the un-drafted, twice cut, guy coming from nowhere and taking the league by storm. He'd be getting significant media attention no matter where he played, if all circumstances were static, like him seemingly saving a teams season with 4 straight wins, without their 2 All-NBA caliber players. Being from the Ivy League doesn't hurt either. It's lazy to just blame it on NYC or his ethnicity. It amplifies it, but it would be big anywhere.

Perfect example right here-> George Hill in the 2009-2010 first round series against the Mavs. He carried the Spurs and averaged 22ppg across the 6 games. He even dropped 29 points with 5 threes in game 4 against a division rival in the playoffs when the Big Three didn't show up to play. Yet did anybody talk about him? NO. Being a Spurs fan in NY I could mention the name George Hill and people would just stare it me like a confused dog.
