Fake trade: LeBron and Wade to the Knicks for Jeremy Lin, who says no?

The only thing I find overblown is the so called media proclaimed struggle he had getting here. Not even two seasons.

The kid is really likeable, and unlike Tebow he is putting up record breaking numbers. Sure ESPN might be riding the story a bit, but at least a lot of the hype is warranted.
Oh, yeah, trust me, I think it's warranted too. He's doing great out there.

But, soon enough someone else will do something great, or be a big story and Lin will die down because eventually, everyone is going to just expect it out of him.

When LeBron first came into the league, the coverage was enormous. It was nonstop LeBron coming out of High School, being raised in Akron playing for his home state team, first picks in the draft, impact on Cleveland, amazing court vision, influence, LeBron's Hummer, LeBron's friends, LeBron being suspended in high school, LeBron, LeBron, LeBron.

Then after a while he kept putting up his numbers and eventually everyone just accepted he was this good and found something new to be amazed over.

Lin is already getting to that point. ABC had their Sunday game for him. So he's reached the apex of media coverage. He performed beyond expectations. I mean, he not only shut up a lot of people that thought he'd come crashing down against the Mavs, but he also outperformed himself against the Mavs. He's reached Cloud 9. The media will move on soon.

It is overblown, but there's definitely a struggle. He was one of the top players in California and didn't even get an offer from any of the major schools, even Stanford which was basically right across from where he lived. Goes to Harvard and pretty much tears it up but goes undrafted, not a huge deal, lots of guys went undrafted, but then he only gets an offer from ONE NBA team to join their summer league team and that's the Mavs. Goes to the Warriors on a multi-year contract and really never gets comfortable, ends up basically getting used as a marketing tool to bring Asian fans out, spends most of the time in the D-league. Gets cut unexpectedly after the lockout ends, goes to the Rockets and gets cut again because that trade fails to go through, goes to Knicks, apparently D'Antoni didn't even acknowledge him for the first two weeks he was there, goes to the D-league for one game, I think he recorded a triple-double in that game, gets called back up but is a few days away from being cut so Baron Davis can become the point guard.

Obviously it's not as big of a struggle as ESPN makes it out to be, he didn't have any struggles growing up, grew up middle class and all that, but his basketball career hasn't really been easy-breezy.

I agree, ever since I got hooked on Deadspin, Sportscenter and Espn have kind of fallen off the map for me. I guess I've become more cynical with age, but some of the media personalities and their ridiculous banter gets to be too much, so I have to turn off espn lol.

After Lin's game against the Hornets, then his doubters thought they had enough evidence to discount him as a NBA player. I guess players who don't belong in the league then get double teamed nearly every possession, and still drop 14 dimes, grab 5 steals, and score 30 points with 5 of them coming on two ridiculous layups on consecutive possessions. He has made his teammates better players and inspired a team that looked dead two weeks ago. The only factor I can see that could curtail Lin's play is one teams adjusting to him, but that should be a non-factor once Melo gets back in the lineup and is able to take the pressure off Lin. Second, it's the fact he is logging more minutes than he ever has, which could affect him later in the season. Oh and I forgot probably the most important factor, whether or not the ball stops at Melo on offense because if it does all the positive momentum Lin and his teammates have established will be undone.

That ends my rant, but it just annoys me that some sports reporters still think Lin isn't the answer for the Knicks.

Where did yall hear that he had to convince Harvard to play?

From my understanding Harvard was 1 of a couple schools that guaranteed him a roster spot (Ivy league teams dont give out athletic schollies)

Most of the pac 10 schools wanted him to walk on.

Also note Tommy Amaker is the headcoach there. Him and Lin turned the program around.

Here's a quote from this article I just found:

Even though Harvard showed mild interest in Lin, they weren't immediately convinced of his superstar quality. Former Harvard assistant coach Bill Holden said that he didn't really stand out.

"He was like any other average high school player we might see. When I saw his coach, I recommended he go to a Division III school," Holden said.

However, after watching Lin play against top recruits at a tournament, Holden changed his tone. Along with fellow assistant Lamar Reddicks, Holden noticed that Lin was getting the best of other more heralded college recruits. Soon Lin became Harvard's top recruit and continued to shine against the best competition.

I know ESPN has mentioned it a couple times. Also, I don't think he had to literally convince them to give him a chance, they were more or less unsure about him. He had to SHOW them he could play.

Considering there was a girl on YouTube who wanted to date him and didn't even know who he was, I'd say this is pretty real.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not doubting that some girl would do that, I just can't believe they let that sign into the building. Believe me, I know the stupidity of a lot of these girls out there, that's not the question.

I keep thinking the real benefactor in all this is...

                                (as usual) David Stern...

Lockout and how it was handled, was a major blight on the NBA...

The league needed something like this as much as MLB needed the McGuire / Sosa Home Run Derby to bring ALL the stragglers, malcontents, discontented, fence sitters, casuals (AND in this case, the international market) in / back in a big way...

I know, because I was planning on sitting this year out and now find myself getting pulled back in...

                                Godfather III style...
