    Re: Jeremy Lin

His court vision is fine. He needs to bulk up a bit, and make stronger, more crisp passes.

The turnovers are too much, but Baron hasn't been much better. The difference is Baron is making turnovers on plays that aren't needed.

My one concern with Lin is he loses control of his dribble when running full speed at half court. IDK what it is, but I've seen it happen at least 3 times, I believe. I wish no Knick was involved in the ASW. We need some practices in, big time.

D'Antoni needs to play Baron more, but, Baron needs to make better decisions.

      Re: Jeremy Lin

One of the few players here on assignment from a NBA franchise, Jeremy Lin flashed the same deceptive quickness and assertiveness off the dribble that we grew to expect from him at Harvard. Often bringing the ball up the floor for Reno, Lin was constantly looking for opportunities to knife into the lane. Using his quick first step and hesitation moves to get into the paint consistently, Lin was highly efficient over the two games we saw him thanks to his ability to create easy shots for himself around the rim and get to the foul line.

A combo guard in the Ivy League making the steep transition to playing the point full time in the NBA, Lin's ability to knock down shots from the perimeter, handle the ball under pressure and cut down on turnovers will dictate his chances of sticking in the NBA. With that said, his performance in the NBADL has been impressive. He has done a fine job translating the things he did well in the college game to a higher level of competition, seemingly unfazed by the bigger, more athletic players he's routinely matched up with. Lin's basketball IQ, competitiveness and overall savvy were underrated factors in his professional evaluation, and it's clear that NBA teams value them quite a bit.

Extremely tough around the basket and showing a very good understanding of his how to use screens and subtle changes of direction to turn the corner off the dribble, Lin won't land on a highlight reel any time soon, but he gets the job done in the D-League. Knocking down a couple of jumpers over the course of the week at the Showcase, it will be important for Lin to improve his ability to make shots from beyond the arc, especially with his unorthodox shooting mechanics.

The biggest knock on Lin from a NBA perspective is his lack of ideal physical tools for the defensive end. He fared well in the two games we saw on South Padre Island, but his below average wingspan and lateral quickness will be bigger concerns against the more athletic and talented offensive players he'd come across on a nightly basis in NBA play.

Shooting just 31.6% in limited action with the Warriors this season, Lin has had a much easier time scoring in the D-League, averaging nearly 20 points per-game and shooting 53% from the field. While Lin is clearly going to benefit from this experience when he returns to Golden State, he'll need to become a reliable set shooter to give himself more staying power in the NBA since he faces an uphill battle defensively. Regardless of the obstacles he faces in becoming a long-term NBA player, Lin was very very good here and left a strong impression.

Honestly NYK needs time to adjust to huge personnel changes over the last few weeks before we know what's going on. As it stands you can tell its alot of off the sleeve stuff that will be improved upon as guys get back into the swing. The rest of this season will dictate D'Antonis future with the franchise.

            Gotcha..
I played PG most of my life and my coaching experience since then is very guard heavy because it's what I know the best. Too many people want to make the big flashy play instead of the simple one as if an assist from a simple pass to a wide open 3 point shooter is different than a crossover drive to an alley oop. Long story short, making the right decisions to EVERYONE on the floor is a large reason he's doing so well, but it doesn't say anything about court vision. You can't equate court vision to higher assist numbers in this small of a sample size. The "cheap" assists are more about making proper decisions than court vision 9 times out of 10.

You can take the damned if you do approach if you want but this is detailed analysis of his game while you want to shoot down anyone that points out any flaw (which falls in line with those that want to compare him to HOFers... who also had their own flaws btw). He's capable of having big assist games (proven bc he already has) but a closer look makes you raise a red flag on the chance of being consistent with that without more growth to his game. Meanwhile (as I said) I'm very impressed with his ability to score, but you ignore that to keep the tone of anything negative means people are hating on the guy. He's a good PG but he's got a long way to go to even be deserving of keeping a starting spot for years to come. He's a smart kid though so his decision making (which is already good and unselfish) will just continue to get better, but that shouldn't be confused with court vision. He does not have Steve Nash's court vision.

By everyone. Every time they show his stat line they don't break down the turnovers. It's like 26 points, 9 assists, 6 rebounds and oh yeah, 8 turnovers. 8 turnovers is a lot, I don't care what anyone says. That's 8 possessions wasted which in turn could be 16 points or more.

People confusing court vision and passing ability with making sound decisions.

Lebron has great court vision, just watching the game last night the way he hit Chalmers on an inbound with a bounce pass between defenders, through the paint, was beautiful.

Got to agree Altimus. It's a little sickening though how the media is now saying he has been exposed...He was getting this amount of turnovers during his hot streak but people were understating them because of his points and assists totals. He wasn't exposed imo, he just had a terrible game where his points and assists totals weren't big enough to hide the plethora of turnovers like previous games. The Heat have made many players look awful this year. The guy is still learning. EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.

                    Re: Jeremy Lin

Watching him against the Heat last night was brutal. He looked like a college freshman out there. His whole game was just looked rushed. His shot was off. (1-11) everyone has off shooting nights, and the Heat's D was stifling, they didn't give a damn about Linsanity. But those TO's have got to come down, I mean, yea one night he goes for 11 assists, but to go along with 8 TO's. To what cost are those turnovers hurting the team? Providing momentum swings for the other team and easy offense for the other team.

I'm not chastising him for having a bad game, but those TO's are hard not to notice.

The turnovers are also easier to notice against the Heat. The Heat, at their best, is a fast break team that feasts on long rebounds and turnovers. They also match up well against the PnR and if the wing players don't need to help on a driving PG they limit a lot of open passing lanes for jump shots. I'd say in general, the Knicks match up well with the Heat but the Heat also match up well with the Knicks... and their guys are better.

If Lin's shot was falling it would've made a bit of a difference but as much flack as Melo gets, that's the kind of game where he needs to be able to create more on his own for the Knicks to win.

You can equate court vision to assists if the other players are getting easy baskets. If I didn't watch the games played, I would say otherwise. Trust me.

And it's not fair to compare him to Steve Nash (which I never did) but it's also not fair to compare him to Toney Douglas (which I did)?

They have mentioned them in passing BigEast but they have not really made a point to highlight them or harp on them. With you in NY being able to watch more games of him maybe they make a point to talk about them in pre/postgame shows more but I'm referring to ESPN/ABC, TNT talking heads. Media can't keep the Linsanity Train going if they are harping on TO's during his incredible run.

No, bigeast is right. Even in ESPN coverage they are talking about his turnovers and how it "hadn't been detrimental to the team yet."
