Yep. Kevin Johnson (mayor of Sac.) tweeted that it wasnt over yet. Looks like they are trying to keep the team in Sac.

This is how negotiations work. The Maloofs are all about money right now. They are damn near broke. Lost their liquor distributorship. Lost their majority share in the Palms Casino. The Kings are the last great asset they have left so their only goal is to get as much money as they can. If the Seattle group offered 500 and KJ was able to find a Sac owner who will pay 550....the Maloofs are going to choose the Sac owner.

It has to be more significant with that.. unless the headlines were wrong... they were finalizing this deal

These guys, why don't they take what they have and just be investors in another team if they want residual income

                    23,

Its really not. They dont have much money. The Palms problems have basically crushed them. Just because you are finalizing a deal doesnt mean the one side cant pull out of it. They are boxed in. The NBA wont let them move to Anaheim. VA Beach isnt viable. Seattle wont take them unless they sell to Hansen and Sac wasnt willing to fully finance the new arena. Right now its about the Maloofs getting the most money they can.

Man that's crazy... What is this Sacto is doing? Are they waiting til the last hour before they try some kind of desperate last minute offer to keep them though? Why not just do that without the back and forth.

As soon as next season!? This excites me.

Also, OKC better cough up that history back to its rightful owners.

Luckily, Sacramento doesn't have any history, so they won't have to worry about what to do with it.
OKC and Seattle have shared history. All of the retired jerseys, trophies, etc. are actually still up here in Seattle. OKC has rights to use them on occasion or make copies. Bennett has agreed to turn over the name "Supersonics" at no cost.

I think it's a completely different situation. For one, the Sonics never contacted cities about moving. They could have done fine, long-term, in Seattle. Bennett offered Shultz a lot of money to buy them explicitly to move them to OKC, because the NBA told him he couldn't have the Hornets because of the bad PR it would create post-Katrina. The Kings are moving. It's just a matter of where. And Seattle deserves the team a whole lot more than Virginia Beach or Anaheim.

Second, the Sacramento fans, while they're losing the Kings, aren't losing basketball. The Warriors play and hour and a half west of Sacramento. Most people in Sacramento already follow the Bay Area teams in just about every other sport. The NBA isn't being taken away from them - just a team is.

Third, Chris Hanson isn't lying. He has been crystal clear about his intentions through the whole process. He isn't looking to just buy an NBA team. He's looking to move a team to Seattle. Hopefully, that doesn't change, and everything will remain honest. The Clay Bennett situation made everyone so angry, because he lied through his teeth, and everyone here knew it, while the national media and fans made it out like he wasn't. And then, he gutted the team so they'd be terrible. It's not so much the fact that he took the team that angered people so much, it was the lying, the deceit, the ploys, and games the guy played.

If this goes through, I wonder how intense KeyArena will get when the Thunder come to town for the first time.

Good luck outbidding what the Seattle group can potentially offer.

Mitch Levy is saying the Maloofs backing out is BS. FWIW, he has been pretty trust-worthy with insider information regarding the Hansen-Ballmer group.

Considering the CEO of Microsoft and the Nordstrom brothers are in this group, yeah, good luck with that to anyone trying to keep the team in Sacramento.
