Re: THUNDER vs. SPURS - 2012 WESTERN CONFERENCE FINALS THREAD

It was a stupid move by Brooks no doubt.

I prefer to give credit to the Spurs and Manu going nuts as well as place a lot of blame on KD/Westbrook. KD only took 2 shots in the 4th quarter, played all 12 minutes. 2 shots? Slap yourself KD. Westbrook just played out of control all game long, going in a straight line way too often. Charging and barreling into the opposition, looking much like he did in last year's much maligned playoffs.

If Westbrook doesn't play like how he has been in the playoffs, they will not win. It doesn't matter if Serge plays 48 minutes or if he doesn't play at all. Westbrook needs to settle down and not try too hard. The Spurs are not ****ing around this year, they are looking unbeatable.

It's going to take a perfect series from WB and KD for them to have a chance of winning.

Westbrook goes 7-21 and Durant gets 2 shots in the ENTIRE 4th Quarter.

The LAST person I'm going to look at as being responsible for losing Game 1 is Scott Brooks.

And just to emphasize, the Spurs deserve all of the credit for that. Westbrook was seemingly playing in a phone booth, drenched with defenders. Captain Jack gave up a lot of points to KD but he made KD work hard, and Jack played physical defense on KD and fouled the **** out of him. Their team defense was solid to close the game and their offense was off the charts after Pops' legendary pep talk during the timeout.

All the credit goes to the Spurs for game 1 win. It wasn't what OKC didn't do, it was what the Spurs did to OKC.

I definitely agree, the Spurs went and won that game....

but like I said....I have a hard time believing the best shot blocker in the league with 0 fouls wouldn't have impacted all that paint work...

Lol, maybe Serge didn't want to come in the game....but im going to assume it was Scotty's decision though....I can't put the game on his head, but it's a curious decision...

Like I said, I'm all for it....keep that up Mr Brooks...I ain't even mad.

There are always going to be curious decisions made in every game but this one will get most the attention because you have your best defensive player on the team sitting on the bench with 0 fouls in a tight game in the 4th quarter.

In a series where your definitely going to need some size/bulk, I was surprised they didn't give Nazr Muhammad some minutes. Of course he's not Serge Ibaka and he probably isn't going to provide much on Offense but he may be able to give you some defense in the post, considering Perkins was in Foul Trouble and basically disappeared.

You just can't go to the WCF and start experimenting against Pop

Brooks needs to understand that, and yes Russ was charging guys as well as James Harden multiple times if you remember, but I credit that also to great Spurs defense.

Going small at any point against SA is a deathwish though.

Oh, and like I said previously, I swear Harden is always going left, at least from what I have seen in the Laker series and now in the Spurs series, I rarely see him drive right. Force him right.

The people of OKC should get together and pay for a billboard that says:

"Dear Russell: You're not the best player on the team, he is."

With a biggass arrow pointing to a picture of Kevin Durant.

Westbrook has consistently taken more shots than Durant in this year's playoff games. This should not be happening. Also how the hell does KD go the last 5 minutes of a close game without taking a shot? Spurs played good D here and there, but that should not happen.

I love it, the Thunder finally get bested in a game and all of a sudden everything is Westbrook's fault. Two days ago we were talking about how good he's been.

Well was it not? He reverted back to bad Westbrook.

Either that or the Spurs played damn good defense.

I think it was a little of both personally. Nobody said it was entirely his fault anyway.

Plus not everyone's blaming Westbrook, I think it's clear that Brooks made a foolish mistake by not playing Serge to end the game, Durant was non existent in the 4th with only attempting to shots and that Westbrook played out of control and shot a horrible percentage.

Russ played a little out of control, but he was not the reason they lost. I won't pin it on Brooks either. They lost because the Spurs played lockdown D when it mattered. Period. All of this will be a distant memory if the can some how steal game two.

ginoboli better defensively- harden's defense leaves something to be desired.

                              and smarter/better court vision -

harden out of control a few times and got called for charges on a few full speed drives to the rim. ginoboli would have euro-stepped those guys

harden will get better with time, and he is one of my favorite players to watch.

We refers to the majority of the posters on this board who were praising Westbrook for his play up to this point. Westbrook has been taking 20-something shots all through the playoffs, its pretty silly to start blaming him for doing the same thing that had led them to only lose one game in the first two rounds.
