I disagree with Fluent, starting Ginobili was the right choice. Danny Green was playing awful, so little defensive attention had to be paid to him. That allowed Sefolosha (the better guard defender) to go on Parker. With Ginobili also on the court though, if Sefolosha guards Parker, then Westbrook guards Ginobili. As we saw, WB can't guard Manu effectively and that lets him have the big game.

Re: THUNDER vs. SPURS - 2012 WESTERN CONFERENCE FINALS THREAD
I'm being premature here, but I'll go ahead and say it:
If OKC comes out and closes the series tomorrow, I think it's time San Antonio takes a long look at trading TP. That might sound ridiculous to some of you and it would hurt to see him in another jersey, but I don't see what good holding onto him would be. If OKC wins this series (which is pretty much assumed) holding onto Parker for the future only delays a rebuilding process. It's looking like he's not good enough to be the best player for a championship level team. If they can't get it done here the championship window officially locks shut for the big 3, so why not use your best trade asset to ensure a solid future? There's gotta be some team out there on the brink that would deal for an offensive PG coming off a near-MVP level season.
Just a thought. TP might come out and explode for 30 and 10 tomorrow and make me look stupid, but I'm just basing this off the likely outcome of the series.Comment

Trading TP may not be a bad idea at some point, but I think the Spurs have one more run in them (2013), so I wouldn't favor trading him yet. Sure, Duncan is a shell of his former self, but Manu is still playing surprisingly well and the role players were good up until this series.
I think the short season definitely helped Manu a lot, not to mention the injury. Perhaps the Spurs should sit him out for the first half of the 2012-2013 season? Maybe Duncan should sit, too?Comment

If Tony was older, maybe. But he's only 30. He's got about 3 years of elite play left.Originally posted by Kaiser Wilhelmthere should not be ties occurring in the NFL except when neither team wins the game.Comment

I say you go ahead and deal him if they get put out tomorrow. This was the perfect storm for them, heading into the playoffs as the #1 seed, maybe the healthiest squad in the postseason and getting to face two awful/injured teams to reach the conference finals, then go up 2-0.
OKC only gets better and more dominant from here if they take the West. SA only gets older and more injured. Again, they may come out like the Spurs of old and answer the OKC call in game 6, but if not I say it's time.Comment

Damn, tough crowd. No wonder players think they need to team up with their superstar buddies. A Spurs fan is the last place I'd hear that kind of all or nothing talk.
If the Spurs lose they lost to a very good young team... doesn't change the fact that they were also right there with them just like they were with all the good teams last year (and every other year for about a decade). Luckily I don't see them blowing anything up.Comment

Theory's about our big 3 have been going on for a while man, I guess there aren't many Spur fans on OS, or we haven't been this deep in the playoffs for a while...
We don't accept "having a good season" or "almost being there" any more than any other contending fan base does....07 was a good while ago, and 08-11 seasons were nothing to be happy about...Comment

Re: THUNDER vs. SPURS - 2012 WESTERN CONFERENCE FINALS THREAD
My problem with starting Ginobli is this. By taking Danny Green out of the starting lineup, you are essentially conceding defeat for Danny Green. A guy who gave you very important production all season and postseason long. You are taking him out of the game and out of his rhythm. Yes he was struggling, but I don't think you panic and pull him from the lineup. Just my opinion. Ginobli was going to play starters minutes anyway, so why pull Danny Green? Let him try and find his rhythm. And who knows, he might have hit a few threes, and you know he's going to play solid D on Westbrook or whoever he's guarding.
Yes Ginobli had a big game, but they didn't win and now Green has probably lost all confidence and rhythm completely. I don't think that's why they lost really, but I don't think it was the best move.Comment

I still believe that you keep Tony around til at least Timmy retires. Maybe, just maybe, Timmy takes a huge pay cut this summer and the front-office (Pop & RC) work their magic. Nobody thought they'd make this far, and other than Oklahoma City, there isn't any truly dominant teams. I won't lose hope until the Thunder have 4 wins, and the front-office should continue to try to improve this team. Getting rid of either Bonner or Blair being first on the agenda, IMO.

I agree that it is not time to trade Tony yet, at least. I still think the Spurs have one more run left. Tony is still in his prime, Manu hasn't really fallen off much, and, though Timmy is not as good as he once was, he still is good. If the Spurs could make a nice trade or sign someone, things could be looking up.
I'd agree about trading one of Blair/Bonner. We really don't need them both, especially with the improvement Tiago has shown this year.Comment

The Timmy pay cut is a solid idea. I know the front office has been in love with Batum for years now. Lorbek is wanting to come over if the price is right and he'd likely be an improvement over Blair or Bonner.Comment
