Re: THUNDER vs. SPURS - 2012 WESTERN CONFERENCE FINALS THREAD

Since my computer and TV are in different rooms, I'll post my thoughts now. Watching the game I never felt the Spurs were going to hold on to the 18 point lead. I thought OKC crowd would will the Thunder back into the game. I'm surprised that the Spurs weren't able to put together one last run but this series showed that the Thunder were better.

Spurs either need Leonard to take the next step or acquire another perimeter defender and acquire an athletic big. This series probably showed why you can't rank in the middle of the pack in defense and win a championship.

I'll be rooting for OKC in the Finals but man the last team I rooted for in the conference finals to win was the 2007 Spurs. So I hope I didn't put a curse on the Celtics.

Also I always hate this time of the year because it means the end of Inside the NBA until late October.

Can the NBA Finals start on Sunday if the Celtics win Game 6?

At one point, if I'm not mistaken, the Thunder got 4 foul calls in a row, like, Shooting, then Offensive on SA, then shooting again, then something else.

        Definitely changed the game

KD has been so good in the playoffs so far dude still hasn't had that explosive 40 point game but it doesn't even matter dude has been crazy consistent scoring really efficiently he played really well against the Spurs...when i first figured out he would face Mavs, Lakers, then Spurs i figured he struggle since those teams had forwards who are good defenders (Marion, MWP, Leonard, Jackson) and i thought KD would struggle but no he has been amazing.

It only makes sense that the two most hungriest teams should meet in the finals...OKC v. Boston. Hopefully, Boston sends these guys home tonight and the team blows up this summer.

I don't think you understand my point. Maybe I'm expressing it badly. I'll try this one more time:

I'm not arguing about what the Heat "should" be doing or "could" be capable of. I'm stating the actual case is it is. The Heat AS THEY TRULY ARE at this point (not what they potentially are) are exactly where one would expect them to be right now. Their exactly the kind of team Boston can beat. They are undisciplined, have a weak stomach, have wildly inconsistent role players, one of their stars has his mood about the game change from one quarter to the next, their best weapon to combat Boston inside (outside of LBJ) isn't there, and they have a glorified game film coordinator for a head coach. Regardless of where Boston is on the injury front, their team as it's currently constructed has the advantage over this Heat team.

                      LMAO.

There is NO difference between OKC's build and SAS build. Hell, so was Boston, indirectly, and Chicago.

Let's not make this seem like OKC all of a sudden opens the eyes of NBA gm's that building through the draft is a good idea.

So if that's the case why aren't more teams being patient and trying to build via the draft? My Hornets are talking about bypassing a complete rebuild job and instead looking to reload. It's not just the Hornets either. Teams seems to be afraid of too many draft picks and/or too much youth on the roster at one time.

Because 80% of the teams in the NBA are awful.

The same reason that 90% of the titles in the NBA are owned by like 5 teams.

Although I am a Spurs fan, congrats to the Thunder. They played better and they won, bottom line. The entire playoffs, I felt that if any team beat the Spurs it would be (and I want it to be) OKC.

In all honesty, I'm just happy the Spurs made it to the WCF this year after that EMBARRASSING first round exit at the hands of the Grizzlies last year. Gives me hope that this team still has something left.

Even if this marks the end of an era (something people were saying after they got stomped by Memphis last playoffs), it's been a good run. Duncan has had a HOF career, as evidenced by his 4 championship rings, of which two were earned after the retirement of teammate/mentor David Robinson. IMO, he is the greatest PF of all-time.

But with all that said, I will definitely be rooting for OKC in the Finals.

As much as drafting/scouting is a skill, it's also luck. Every team tries to be like OKC but you need to have a lot of things come together. Now, since Durant, OKC has had 13 draft picks and 3 they have kept and are worth something in Harden, Westbrook, and Ibaka. Two of those are top 5 picks so each year OKC was a subpar team in the drafting of those two additional players. Not taking away the success but OKC but it's no where near easy and it's not like OKC has made some new discovery. Need a lot of things to go on your side.
