    Can you dunk?

Searched for this thread in Tapatalk and nothing showed up.

Just wondering, 10 foot rim and full sized ball of course.

For me? Yes, I can dunk. Nothing special though. The first time I dunked was when I was 15.

Not quite, need about 3-4 more inches. 5'10". Can slap the rim.

That's pretty impressive. Can you palm?

Honestly, I think palming a ball is half of dunking. That way you don't have to flush it in.

Yeah I can palm and I have to agree. Had a friend in High School who was about 6'4" and could jump but he couldn't dunk because he had to do it 2 handed. He could catch a one handed alley though.

Barely. On a good day. Even then I can't flush it as I sort of just push it in with my fingertips lol.

I can catch alleys just fine though.

I'm 5'9. Maybe 5'10 if I've grown an inch over the summer but I doubt it. Still got 2 more years of growing left so who knows right?

I got those in my closet right now. Do they actually work? If so I might just wear them walking around the house all day until the school semester starts and they open up the Intramural Gym again.

Anybody else find they can't ball outside anymore after playing in a gym for an extended period of time.

6-1 and no... not anymore. I used to but knees have let me down in recent years. I can get up there but not in game time.

I can tell you Jumpsoles didn't do squat for me. sure it strengthens that extra little muscle but it's a minor difference.

As for the ankle weights, they'll make your calves HUGE. Pretty quick too, especially if you wear them everywhere. I used to wear them to school under my jeans haha.

If you really want to increase your vert just do Calf Raises, grab a 2x4 or something flat about 2 inches high and stand with your toes on them and heels on the ground. Raise up on the board all the way tip toed. Just do those everyday and you'll get a pretty big increase.

6'8 so yes, but it's not easy these days anymore lol.

I played last night, jumped into a game before I warmed up at all. Tried to dunk on the vert after a nice dish from a penetrating guard...SPRITE!!

That hasn't happened in a long time.

                              Re: Can you dunk?

I can in fact dunk. My first flush came during the beginning of my freshman year of high school as a relatively little guy (5'11''-ish). I started as a one-foot, one-hand dunker, then switched to solely being a two-foot guy, which led to years of fast break dunk attempts being stifled by having defenders catch up to me while I slowed down to set my feet. Eventually growing to 6'3'', I briefly lost the ability to dunk after high school after burning out on basketball, then decided to build myself back up to be better than I was before. I re-introduced the one-foot takeoff and around age 20 I began dunking in games all over the place.

I'm now 28 years old and I'm dunking as well as I ever have. Every year since around age 22 I've wondered if my ability to dunk would leave me over the winter and every year, I seem to have been able to come back for more. I know my time's coming though, so I'm just trying to make the most out of it while I still can.

To be truthful, I think I'm rising better at age 28 than I was in the three years previous. I feel as though this may be attributed in part to the AirAlert program I tinkered with in the winter to keep my legs active and strong. I've had a lot more summer bounce this year as a result.

                              Random Clips:

                              <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/4wXwG1ciSpI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

                              <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/LKhkgMSu7hI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Also, you guys are right about the ability to palm a rock. 99% of the time, I cannot palm a basketball (due to my T-Rex-like dimensions i.e. long neck, short arms/hands). But in those 1% moments (usually when I'm goofing around outside of a game and I can just stuff it in my mitt and run to the hoop) it's ten times easier to dunk (though often less emphatic). Earlier this summer I was actually able to pull off a palming dunk for maybe the first time in-game in my life and I felt like Scottie Freaking Pippen. It was a lot easier to rise in the presence of defenders when I knew I could put the ball on a pedestal like that.
