Re: Chris Broussards Sources tell me Trade Rumors and Discussion Thread

ESPN intentionally showing people just how much they care about the Raptors:

(for those who don't know...Raptors haven't used that logo in 5 years)

I hate when stations do that. Not just a ESPN-Raptors thing, but any sports station that has a teams old logo in their graphic. Is it really that hard to update the graphic or are they just lazy? It's always something that bugged me.

It's not like a ESPN doesn't update teams they don't care about. They updated all Jays graphics on their site in late 2011(when Jays first changed their logo), and that was obviously before Jays were really relevant in USA.

Also...BC said he IS shopping Bargnani, but won't trade him just for sake of trading him(basically meaning that he has no real attachment to Bargnani)

Good. He should be looking to get rid of that bum.

Nope. The Mavs were already in discussions to be the third team but it died because they didn't want to give up Vince Carter. I'm assuming they were willing to give up Dahntay Jones instead.

Like what are they holding onto in Vince Carter?

And it's been repeated a few times already. But why in the **** did the Grizz trade Gay for? They go from having the best all around front in the league to the worst. Hubbie Brown sounded dumb founded by the whole thing. I better get my last few games in with Grizz in 2k13 before they update the rosters.

Vince has actually been an outstanding player for us this year, I would probably say he's been our third best player this year after Collison and Mayo. He's shooting 38% from the three point line, averaging 12 a game and has one of the best +/-'s in the league. I said in another thread that before the Portland game, in the 8 games prior, VC had a +106, which blew away the rest of the league. He's a spark off the bench, last year if his shots didn't fall early on he would play timid, he's been aggressive, he's shown a lot of flashes back to the old days, he's just been a good player for us and a guy that would be very hard to replace, especially since we were just going to get Calderon.

Vince is also one of the few players that will be on contract with us next year.

To answer why the Grizz traded Gay, well I have no idea, it doesn't make much sense to me. Obviously they see a lot of potential in Ed Davis, and I think he will be a good player for them, but Rudy is a great player and I don't think they really had any chemistry issues between him, Conley, Gasol and Randolph. Trading Ellington was weird to me too, he was really the only shooter they had.

Rudy is a good player, with potential to still become great.

Currently, cost wise, retaining him didn't make much sense. What they got in return also didn't make much sense lol

I think everyone understands why he was an option to be traded, makes perfect sense, but for Ed Davis, Tayshaun Prince and Austin Daye? And especially since they already traded Wayne Ellington away?

The Raptors easily won that trade. Yeah, they had to part with a rising young star in Ed Davis but they got Rudy Gay out of it and dumped an expiring contract in Calderon. The Pistons, who knows what they're doing considering all they did was gain an expiring contract lol.

In my opinion the Raptors got the best player in the deal. This never happens. We always get fleeced!

In my opinion from a Raptors point of view they win this deal hands down. We needed Gay desperately, we filled the 3 spot. Hopefully this fresh start and playing with his boy Lowry will make him raise his game back up to where it was and beyond....

This trade is a steal for Raptors imo. They've been having problems finishing tight games, right? Gay can definitely score the last basket.

It's not so much about Raptors scoring as it is about Raptors needing defense.

                        Points per quarter:
Raptors: (1st is good for Raptors,15th is bad for Raptors)
                        1st-4th in east
                        2nd-9th in east
                        3rd-5th in east
                        4th-6th in east
                        Overall-4th most PPG in East

Raptors opponent: (1st is good for Raptors,15th is bad for Raptors)
                        1st-5th in east
                        2nd-13th in east
                        3rd-13th in east
                        4th-11th in east
Overall-13th in east in Opponent PPG

A top 5 offense in the east, yet one of the worst in defenses. Imagine if Raptors had a good defensive team. They could easily be playoff contender right there. Even a defense around 8-10th in the east would be good enough.

The main issue has just been that they've been allowing too many close shots. Raptors are actually one of the better teams in the league in opponent FG% from 10+ feet away from the basket. But due to the amount of close shots teams get, it overshadows the Raptors good defense from 10+ feet away. Which is why I'm hoping they do get a big/strong PF on their team, so if team do get close to the basket, Raptors can stop them.

Fans of team that gets the player suddenly knows about them, fans of team that loses the player, wants to get over them. Fans of all other teams can comment on this player without it seeming random.

He's still better than Landry Fields and Kleiza.

I never said Rudy Gay was bad by the way, just that he wasn't better than Paul Pierce.

Considering they're not a good team, there is no reason to shed big contracts. Plus Calderon makes other moves possible.
