Re: Chris Broussards Sources tell me Trade Rumors and Discussion Thread

All indications point that this was the MLSE Board willing to spend money because they liked the deal, not BC's contract getting extended. I like the deal for everyone. The Raptors needed SOMETHING done, hopefully Gay can regain good form in Toronto, and make a dynamic, athletic backcourt with Lowry and Ross(and to a lesser extent Derozan). This opens the flood gates for Bargnani to be traded as well, as he obviously doesn't fit this team, and unlike in years past, he's not the focal point. For the Grizzlies, they get rid of a guy who was ultimately holding them back, and can now allow their offense to flow through Gasol/Randolph, as well as make sure they're able to hold on to everyone. For Detroit, I think the interesting part comes in to play with Calderon's ability to pass on abiliity. If Calderon can teach Stuckey to play with more control, and make him a better passer, Stuckey could be worth what they're giving him. Bad news for Detroit fans now, though, you have cap room next year.

The most interesting thing about this trade is all the emotion behind it. Every player in the trade has only played for the team that traded him. Emotions are clearly running high in every locker room, and it'll be interesting to see how that plays out.

Also, I think we need to get #hugeddavis trending on twitter. From all reports, dude was straight up wrecked over this trade.

Silver lining for Raptors fans: Jose Calderon was the lone holdover from the Rob Babcock era.

Woj(along with the rest of the Yahoo! Sports Staff) has, for the most part, been pretty good when it comes to breaking NBA news.

Certainly better than MULTIPLE SOURCES himself and the rest of the ESPN crew of "Reporters" SMH

That's assuming the Pistons keep Calderon. They have lots of expiring contracts left. If they're not looking to open up cap space, they could acquire talent for their load of expirings.

The Rudy Gay deal is one that continues to sour my liking of the NBA. A business move that moves your leading scorer? This should not be considered a business move. Especially when you're 4th in the West.

Gay is still only 26 too, damn shame if you're a Grizzlies fan.

That's funny since they gave up one in that lopsided Cavs trade.

Edit: Toronto really doesn't have a pick to trade. Their pick is locked up to OKC for quite a while if Toronto makes the playoffs this year.

Rudy Gay may be the leading scorer, but averaging 17 points on 16 shots isn't exactly hard to do.

Again, this move is very much to the Grizzles benefit.

They were going to have an almost impossible task of squeezing a 1st rounder out any team because everyone knew how anxious they were to move Gay.

This trade is a win win. Memphis really isnt losing that much with this trade. This is going to simplify things for them just like Gays injury did a few years ago.

Prince isnt what he was a couple years ago, but hes better suited to the role Memphis needs from the 3 than Rudy was. Theyre better defensively simply because Prince is at worst average and Rudy was at best subpar.

Offensively its all about how much you believe in Randolph. If hes capable of playing nearly the same he did in that run a couple years ago theyre set. Gasol is amazing and Conley is one of the more underrated players in the league. Hes a borderline top 5 pg, theres nothing he does poorly.

Davis is a great piece for the future.

I dont see what theyre losing that they cant replace with contributions from elsewhere.

At worst I see this being a small loss if Prince is completely washed up, which won't really be answered until he has to play in the playoffs. I personally think hes going to do well, though its admittedly hard to tell with these type of players (I thought battier wasnt much of a pick-up for Miami last year).
