The only real comparison between the two is their size/stature, hustle, and propensity for defense. But Ben Wallace was always an instinctive shot blocker and rebounder, Young doesn't really have any skills that set him apart.

He's more in the Brandon Bass/Jason Maxiell type.
I guess I didn't explain myself well enough in my first post. I'm not saying Young can't be a defensive anchor or a top notch rebounder just not on Ben's level which is why I said poor mans version.

I expect him to impact the game in very similar ways as Wallace(if he's in impact player at all). Ben was just so elite at those things it's very difficult to project another player doing so with the same longevity and efficiency.

I think it'd be better to just compare a prospect directly to a pro instead of projecting someone to be a "poor man's" someone. Wouldn't that just be easier, lol. When people use the "poor man's" I don't think everyone is on the same page hahaha

Young being closer to Maxiell is way better sounding than a poor man's Ben Wallace. Just imo

To be fair though, it's not like Wallace came in to the league as a rookie and was instantly the top rebounder and shot blocker in the league.. Didn't he play SF his first few years anyways??? Not saying Young will develop into what Ben Wallace was, but expecting him to instantly be a prime Ben Wallace isn't really what da ThRONe was trying to say. He has plenty of time to develop into the player he will eventually become, just as Wallace did.

I think what Ruff was trying to say is that he doesn't do anything nearly as good as Ben did when he came into the league so he'll need to be better in other areas (I still remember Kobe banging on him in a preseason game at UNLV). He'll get a look because he is physically ready but IMO he'll be on a D-League roster for at least a year or 2.

Part of my comparsion(and I think this goes for most people when they make comparsions) was the similarity in size and body type. But I get what you are saying though.

Yeah, when comparing unproven players we at times get too caught up in trying to measure them by great players. The thing about this one, in particular, is Ben Wallace was nonexistant on offense. Detroit may as well have been playing 4 on 5. But he was a tenacious rebounder and shotblocker. If you say Young is like a "poor man's" Ben Wallace, then you negate those strengths. SO basically we have a 6'9 undersized C who has no offense game and is maybe just an average rebounder and shotblocker. There's probably at least one of those guys on every DLeague team.

Young isn't anywhere near the rebounder or defender Wallace was. He's going to be a D-league player for awhile.

Again I think the disconnect is based on the fact that I wasn't as articulate as I should have been in my original comment. I'm not saying Young is that guy or will be that guy. I was saying if he's going to have a quality career in the NBA it will be in the Ben Wallace type role. An athletic, muscular, but short 5 that hustle, rebound, and protects the basket.

For the sake of the discussion I could have easily said "Reggie Evans" type role as someone already mentioned. Again it was Young's build that made me say "poor mans" Ben Wallace.

Don't think the Raptors go with Warren. But, at that pick, there really aren't that many guys left that I would take, so I guess I can't disagree. But I hope it doesn't play out like that lol.

Whoever drafts Dario Saric, probably won't get him for a year or two. He'd prefer to stay in Europe for at least another year, his manager said Dario will play in the NBA no later than 2016.

He's the other guy I was thinking. The biggest thing the Raptors need imo is a guy who can create his own shot. Right now, it's really only Ross/Derozan who can do that and they're pretty inconsistent. It'd be nice to have another guy who can bring it off the bench with Vasquez and hopefully develop into a starter.
