    Andre Drummond, better than Dwight?

I think Andre could become better than dwight howard, its only seven games into his sophomore season but you can clearly tell this kid has game. he works so hard and has such a high drive and passion for the game. It's been a while since i've seen that in anyone. He is a remarkable athlete. and a rebounding virtuoso.

    agree or disagree?

Andre will be better than howard one day?

I love the things Andre does well but to this point, his back-to-the-basket game is non-existent. I know people may like to joke and say, "Well, Dwight doesn't have a post game either" but Andre really doesn't have a post game. It's bad enough where I feel like he might just never have the inherent ability to develop something there.

Even with that aside, I'm a fan of his. He's an absolute monster in terms of rebounding, shot blocking, and taking up massive amounts of space while airborne.

Hes incredibly raw, theres no doubt about that. There is room for growth, but if I'm correct there was article from bleacher report stating that Andres rookie numbers per 36 minutes were greater than dwight's.

ultimately i think he could surpass dwight. Dwight has a post game, a very unreliable inconsistent post game, but he still has one. that is one fo the issues that will plague andre drummond. but there is time.

heres an article that is completely irrelevant to what i just stated, but worth checking out. pretty compelling:

Detroit Pistons center Andre Drummond blew away expectations as a rookie, and now experts and fans alike are speculating on his potential. His skill set is raw, but he is among the most athletic players in the league...

Thanks for that. DeAndre Jordan has been the name that's come up to me more so than anyone else when thinking of Drummond. By that I don't mean his ceiling is DeAndre's statistics. Rather, just in terms of skill set, those two seem to have a bit in common. Drummond may end up being better at some/a lot of those skills (if he's not already) but they seem to be of the same ilk.

The per 36 stats are a tough comparison for me right now because with Drummond I often wondered how much his production would drop once he began playing big minutes. That guy played balls to the wall and exhausted himself last year because he knew he was going to be lucky to play 20 minutes a night. As such, I think he was able to max out in all of his skills. He would attack the glass like a banshee and run the floor as hard as humanly possible because he knew he was only going to be playing in two to three minute increments anyway. I call it the Grinnell College approach.

This year, I think we're seeing a little more pace from Drummond with his increased minutes, so I think those per 36 numbers will dip a little bit, hence throwing some of those comparisons off a little.

if AD develops any kind of legit post game or a 15 foot jumper he WILL be a better play than dwight. they are essentially the same exact player if you take dwights slight ability in the post out of the discussion

Gosh, whatever happened to Anthony Randolph?! this kid had some potential as well as Tyrus Thomas.

Where is GSW when you need him?

At this point, Drummond is Deandre Jordan with more upside. He's still crazy young though.

I'd take Drummond over Howard. Maybe crazy, but I see NOTHING in D12 that Drummond can't provide. Guy is tough. You can't teach tough. You either have it or you don't.

I think he has much greater touch around the basket as well. On the (very) rare occassions I have seen Drummond post up are face up he's looked much more together than Howard did this early (maybe even now). I guess maybe nobody ever expect anything out of Drummond and they are caught by surprise.

Re: Andre Drummond, better than Dwight?

If Howard had the same role as Drummond I think he would be a much better player than Drummond is... But because everyone wants to make him a low-post scoring threat and try to build offenses around him he just looks awkward out their at times and gets bad recognition... If he was more of a rebound, hustle, defensive type player and focused on things like that the way Drummond does he would be much better IMO..

Also, just a few season ago Dwight led a team to the finals, I'm not even sure Drummond is capable of leading a team as a primary option.. So let's not get carried away with this comparison here. He has a long way to go to be Dwight, he's got the tools and potential no question, but it's foolish to think he's already the player Dwight is.

I think Drummond's got a nice touch while facing the basket sometimes (within five feet or so) but from the fair bit I've seen, his post game is pretty much atrocious at this point. I'd be hard pressed to find someone who looks more uncomfortable with his back to the basket than Andre.

Andre doesn't do one thing better than Howard including shooting free throws.

Maybe hit the offensive glass harder but seriously, some of ya'll are giving Drummond way too much credit way to early. A good start to the season but let's pump the brakes and see if he can keep it up with a dribble happy shoot-first PG.

Is this going to be a thing every year once the season starts? Is X player better than Y player? Seems like every year now we get one of these types of threads. We got this, the Paul George/Kevin Durant one, Kyrie/D-Rose last year, Nick Batum/Paul George also last year, DWade/Reggie Miller. Getting kinda crazy lately, no?
