Wow, thats a dunbass comment. Kobe was criticized for taking 70 shots in the last three games on a team with shaq, malone, payton and a solid bench. No one said dont shoot kobe, it was about better selection and unselfish play. Unselfish play doesnt mean passing the ball all game when you have the skills of a kobe bryant to defeat defense. If anything what he did sunday was selfish because he was obviously taking a big game and using it as a statement, maybe to phil jackson. Its pretty selfish to put up a front like kobe did while passively allowing the kings to pump up their lead.

IMO what kobe did yesterday was worse than what a few players (Melo, Chris Mihm, a couple others) did in not coming into the game when the coach told them to. Think about it, I'd rather have kareem rush on the floor playing hard than kobe smirking and passing up shots and using "double team" as his reasoning.

Double teams should never stop a superstar. I have never heard/read such [censored] in my time following the NBA.

I agree BigMike. It was obvious that Kobe was making a selfish statement with his play yesterday. I also agree with Slip though that the Lakers handling of Kobe has been extremely confusing throughout his tenure in LA. I remember Phil alluding that Kobe might have "sabatoged" high school games early on just so he could make a run at the end and be the hero. Tex Winter called out Kobe's poor execution of the triangle offense. Not to mention some of the players he has played with calling him out over the years(Shaq, Horry, Malone early on, and Payton.)

Early on Phil bumped heads with MJ about the triangle Offense, but they came to an agreement over time. The big difference between Kobe and MJ in the triangle is that MJ never had to make the concessions Kobe has had to. MJ knew he had the greenlight to shoot and create whenever he wanted to without suffering criticism while Kobe has to deal with keeping one and now three future hall of famers happy.

I remember when MJ took 55-56 shots in a playoff game against Phoenix back in 93. The luxury(a luxury if you want to shoot a lot and not get criticized by the press and fans) MJ had is he was playing with B.J. Armstrong, Pippen, Ho Grant, and a bunch of other role players meaning who out of these guys (even Pippen)is going to have the nerve to complain about their lack of shots back then?

I can't see Kobe putting up with this kind of roller coaster treatment for another contract period unless Phil or Shaq is gone. Nor can I see Phil wanting to put up with Kobe's interpretation of the triangle.

Too often Kobe is blamed for the team's failure. If Kobe wins while he shoots alot they don't say anything. When they lose with Kobe operating in the same manner he needs to pass more. If they win while he passes more they say nothing. If they lose while he operates in the same manner they say he needs to be more aggressive

While Kobe's mini-revolt was obvious as the game went on, no one is talking about all the good looks these people he passed it to failed to capitalize on .

He's just setting this up for the playoffs. When they face the Kings, Cristie and Company will think they got Kobe covered, until he goes on a tear and averages 40 for the series . . . watch.

On a more serious and non-fanboyism note, both you know, and I know that Kobe could have easily broken through those double-teams. Now I'm not sure if he was AVOIDING shots, I just think that Phil told him to be more passive. I'm pretty sure that after all this crap the media puts on him, he got confused to the point where he thought it would be best to just pass it to his teammates. Obviously he picked the wrong time to not be Kobe, but hopefully the media, Kobe, his teammates, and most importantly, Phil Jackson realize that the Kobe they need is what you guys call "the selfish Kobe." I'd take 30, 5, and 5 with 25 shot attempts rather than 8, 4, 5 with 11 shot attempts.

BTW: Kobe, never do this again . . . never. This, IMO is an all-time low. Worse than the air-balls in Utah and the 40 shots for 40 points incident . . . if you did do this on purpose.

That mindless drivel of setting teams and the media up like there is in-fighting and that the team won't play good but in actuality ready to blow teams out DOES NOT WORK ANYMORE.

And get it through your head...Kobe really is not enjoying himself out there. It's pretty obvious now.

                              Stop the madness.
