If Sheed is healthy, Detroit definatly has more talent. Detroit simply has more balance and is deeper. Kidd, Jefferson, and Martin are a talented front 3 but after that, New Jersey pails in comparison to Detroit. Detroit has 4 guys who are either All Stars or are borderline (as in very close to being) an All Star with Wallace, Wallace, Billups, and Hamilton. Prince is more talented and well rounded than any player New Jersey has after their big 3. Memo, who comes off of Detroit's bench, is more talented than any other player on the Nets after their big 3. Also Detroit has very good balance and no real holes (if Sheed is healthy). The only way New Jersey wins this series is if Sheed is too banged up to hang with Martin and if Jefferson absolutly destroys Prince.

I think Darvin Ham is capable of doing a good job defending Jefferson straight up. At any rate, we may see Ham on the court just about as much as Tay if Tay has a lot of problems defending Jefferson. It's too bad Ham is pretty much a liability on offense in half-court sets. It would make it easier for Larry Brown to play him more minutes if he could contribute more offensively.

You really think Brown is going to play Ham that much? Almost as much as Tay? Wow.
You know the situation better than I do, but I can't see Ham getting more than at most 15-20 mins per game in the series. His season average is nine, his season high is 22, and his playoff high is eight. I would expect Ham to probably have 10-15 for the series average.
Although, he has proven to be a good defensive, hustle type player, as he showed in his three seasons with the Bucks.
I like Detroit in the series, and thats who I will be pulling for, but New Jersey could be tough.Comment

Saying Kidd plays no offense is probably the dumbest thing I have ever heard. I think Mike Tyson saying he wanted to eat Lennox Lewis children was a smarter comment then Kidd playing no O. First of all, offense is not shooting ability. Kidd is one of the best offensive players in the NBA because he is able to make his teammates better, and set them up to make shots. Second, Kidd is one of the best players in the NBA in driving and scoring. He is able to go strong to the basket and score. Third, he's an underrated shooter. His form is not pretty, but he hits big shots, especially at the end of a game. Look at Kidd's stats from last year's series against the Pistons compared to Chauncey Billups. Game 1, 6-19 for 15 points for Kidd against 3-12 for 11 by Chauncey. Game 2, 8-21 for 20 points by Kidd vs. 4-13 for 15 by Billups. Game 3, 11-21 for 34 points against 3-7 for 7 points for Billups. Game 4 he shot 10-21 for 26 points vs 1-8 for 6 points for Billups. Yet Jason Kidd plays no offense? What a joke!

Let me be more specific for those with the Homer Goggles on. Kidd is a liability when you have to rely on him for points. Although stats are BAD indicator...I'll use yours to make my point.

That's 35-82 in LAST YEAR'S series. LAST YEAR... those 47 missed shots by your PG don't burn you as much as they will this year because:
a) The Pistons didn't have the the rebounding that they do this year
b) Pistons didn't run as much under Carlisle as they do this year
Not to mention the fact that if your PG is shooting 20.4 times game...you're in TROBLE. If said PG is also only hitting 42% of those 20.4 shots on a team that runs a lot, your offense is not be run correctly.
Ask anyone who knows about the NBA (or maybe watch a game yourself instead of blindly going to NBA.COM) when Jason Kidd has to (or chooses to) shoot more than 10 times per game, he is a liability to his team.
He has no range. He has an average shot at best from outside 14 feet.
Also, while you're making bold untrue statements, Kidd is no longer the best in the league and getting to the hoop and scoring.Listen to The Remodeling Clay Podcast!

Re: Pistons vs. Nets: Second Round Thread
I never said he was the best in the league at going to the basket, just that he was good at it. When the Nets have to rely on J Kidd for points that implies that Martin and Jefferson aren't scoring so obviously the Nets are better when he doesn't score as much, but he definitely is not a liability. I don't know where you got your ten shot a game theory, but Kidd almost always shoots over ten shots a game, and the Nets have been doing fine. The difference between the Nets last year and this year is that they now run isolations for Jefferson when their offense is stagnant, instead of totally depending on Kidd. Anyways, this argument will be irrelevent after Jason Kidd destroys Chauncey Billups like he did last year, and the Nets win the series in 6 games.Comment

Last year, last year, yada yada yada... The difference is, Billips isnt playing against Kidd one week after a severe ankle sprain like last years playoffs. Take the blinders off bud.
Im not even looking into the last Piston/Net game too much (you remember, the one the Nets cheered because they scored 71 points) and you are still looking at LAST YEARS playoffs? Ha!Comment
