Believe me they'll come back talking once the Lakers are winning again trust me.

Wwharton stayed exactly what I meant is just that there are a ton even in Los Angels itself also whom seem to love the player bigger than the team concept

Limbo is like what the Hawks were with Joe Johnson, Josh Smith.. had guys with big contracts and were never going to compete. That's what limbo is.

The Lakers are not in limbo at all. They just so happened to sign some older players.. but for one year deals. They can rebuild rather easily.

Can't believe y'all brought up the Cowboys in this. The NFL is a ratings juggernaut even with their garbage *** games that they trot out on Thursdays. It's America, football and Thanksgiving. The NFL doesn't have to trot the damn Cowboys or Lions out every Thanksgiving for ratings whether they suck or not. So it's not the same reason the NBA keeps sending out the Knicks/Lakers.

I brought up the Cowboys originally but that was just an aside to my original point that still remains unless one of y'all can prove otherwise.

As long as the Lakers play in LA and as long as Kobe Bean Bryant is on that team, people are going to watch them instead of your Charlottes or Washington's or Memphis' or Brooklyn's(despite the fact they play in the biggest market in the country but yet they still draw horribly)or Toronto's or Atlanta's.

But what is the reason why the Lakers/Knicks are always playing on Christmas Day every year? There's gotta be a reason as to why those two always remain but every one is constantly shuffled around.

Look man, lets stop acting like the NBA is unwatchable if its not the lakers

All they have to do is put on a very good matchup plain and simple.

The thing is nobody is ever going to want to watch Brooklyn if you never see them anyway, out of sight out of mind. Its not like they let the fans vote or anything you just deal with it.

I mean let me fill their heads with 2 decades of the Clippers and you can convince yourself that the nba should keep putting them on tv all the time as well.

As I said, the playoffs did not feature the Lakers and people were just as excited watching mostly and especially in the 1st round.

                    Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread

At the end of the day, the NBA is a business.

As many have pointed out, Kobe generates $$$ and can attract more interest and attention because he caters to a wider audience than the likes of a James Harden or a Goran Dragic. Sure the Lakers aren't that good but the casual fan wouldn't know that or wouldn't care- they just want to see star players play, just like in any other sport (soccer for me).

Had Kobe retired or had Melo signed with another team, they definitely would have reduced the amount of games that the Lakers or Knicks play on National TV. So in a sense, I don't think it's because of the fan base or big markets that causes a particular team to get National airtime but more-so because of superstar players.

I don't think anybody feels the NBA is unwatchable if it's not the Lakers..

The point is there are tons and tons of casual fans who would rather watch the Lakers and rather watch Kobe than about 90% of the rest of the league. That's just how it is. I experience this first hand living in Arkansas, you wouldn't believe the amount of "die hard Laker" fans living all the way in Arkansas.

Point is, most casual fans aren't buying league pass, and trying to watch other teams. They're more likely to watch the games with friends and family on the holidays. And as long as the people want the Lakers then it's the Lakers they are going to give those games to.

And of course everyone still watches the playoffs. There is a pretty large difference in playoff basketball than just random mid season basketball. Idk how that is even supposed to correlate.

Besides the reactions are a little too harsh anyways.. Yes the Lakers haven't done anything to "earn" the right to play on Christmas, but it's not like they are just going to go out and get annihilated. It's going to be a competitive ball game regardless, not really like the NBA is throwing out a squad of high school kids to play on Christmas or something..

Honestly for people like us here on OS, who actually watch tons of games all season long, I don't know why it would even matter who plays on Christmas or whatever special day. It's just another game for us no?

The only way that lakers game is competitive is if Kobe goes 40+ bc The bulls will torch that horrid defense.

Plus you can't call the reactions harsh. Most people want their teams who have been more contenders and relevant in the past 2-3 years to get their shot at the spotlight. I agree that LA will only be on bc it's better for market not bc they deserve it, but I'm certainly not gonna see why many of us on here aren't happy with that and understandable so.

People want kobe, people get kobe. Same reason why the cavs knicks thunder clippers etc will always play on christmas. And why atlanta milwaukee charlotte etc will not. People want superstars, not a team that made playoffs due to a historical collapse of a conference.
