    Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread

    LMA News:

Aldridge wants to be a Blazer. He's made that pretty clear.

But his last deal wasn't quite a max deal, which limits the size of the extension he can receive. So Portland might be forced to wait until after Aldridge plays out the final season of his contract at just over $16 million and hits free agency on July 1, 2015.

The summer of 2015 looks like it's going to be a huge one for the Blazers, with not only Aldridge's free agency to handle but also the max extension that looms for Lillard. The scary part there for the Blazers, of course, is what potentially happens to Aldridge's sunny outlook if the Blazers backslide in any way next season.
The difference between signing an extension this year and waiting til next year is huge:

I imagine this is probably similar for someone like Melo as well, which is why it makes sense for him to opt out.

After a remarkable franchise turnaround, Portland Trail Blazers coach Terry Stotts is nearing agreement on a multiyear contract extension, league sources told Yahoo Sports. The Blazers hold an option on the third and final year of Stotts’ contract for 2014-15, but that’ll likely be torn up and replaced with the new deal.
Blazers general manager Neil Olshey and Stotts’ agent, Warren LeGarie, have been working on the deal, and it’s expected to be finalized in the near future, league sources said.

Sounds like George Karl wants the Cavaliers job.

Which, let's be honest, the NBA needs Karl and Irving together.

That would be cool to see, I just don't know if Karl is passed his day. His health and age are pretty large question marks to me

Derek Fisher can thank Jason Kidd? I could see Fisher or Ty Lue getting the gig.

Where does this leave Mark Jackson? Nobody's really been linked to the Lakers yet... I wonder if Mitch has interest in Fisher as well

Derek Fisher is emerging as the leading candidate for the New York Knicks' head coaching vacancy.

Fisher won five NBA titles under Phil Jackson with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Jackson’s plan would be to assemble an experienced staff around Fisher that could include Kurt Rambis and Bill Cartwright.

Fisher said on Thursday night that he had yet to be contacted by the Knicks, according to The Oklahoman.

Why the 20th? Seems like such a random date. Isn't that the Draft Lottery date as well?

Yeah it is because of the draft lottery. I think they are going to unveil the unis as well.

In keeping with the theme of the "Hornets nest" history that spawned the name in the first place, it's also the date that Mecklenburg County (Charlotte's county) declared independence from England. Doubt it has anything to do with it, but just thought I'd toss that out there.

Now back to your regularly scheduled basketball talk lol

I saw someone say that on twitter too. Pretty sure it is a coincidence but pretty cool regardless.

This is the only thing that came out and it's from Bleacher Report of all places(unless they all of a sudden have credibility):

There is an alternative, sources say, the Nets will not rule out: They could look to trade Williams this summer, retool around Johnson and Lopez, squeeze one more run out of Pierce and Garnett and hope for the best.
It's hard to say what the Nets might get for a 29-year-old former All-Star with bad ankles and $63 million left on his contract, but it's worth exploring. The Houston Rockets tried to acquire Williams last December, so it's not inconceivable that another team desperate for point-guard help might inquire.
Don't know where you heard that "rumor" from.

Terrible is a strong word, I would say underperforming. And also injured, considering he might possibly be having surgery on both ankles this offseason.

Well IMO, compared to what he was, he's been terrible.

He has no confidence in his shot or play right now. Yes he's been injured, I'll give you that. But when he's been on the floor, Livingston has been the dominant player of the two.

For the contract he has and his role as THE leader of the team, I think it justifies my statement of terrible.
