Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
I never bought that mess because we all know that he's a Baltimore dude and that "claiming" NY makes it easier to market him.
But as far as NBA/NFL goes:
-Josh Morgan(DC Native)signing with the Skins a few years back.
-James Jones(Oakland/San Jose native)signing with the Raiders this year.
-George Hill(Indianapolis native) being traded to and eventually extending with the Pacers.
-Nick Young(LA Native)signing with the Lakers(also played for the Clippers but was traded there).
I'm not saying that the hometown part carries a lot of weight because I know it doesn't and at the end of the day, it's going to come down to money(and other factors). Those are just a few examples and I'm sure there are more but I do think that the hometown part does play a role, albeit a small, small factor.
I was thinking more of players who can pretty much choose where they want to go though. James Jones may be pushing on the lower end of the caliber I was talking about but the others, not really. I guess a better way to say it is a player on a team willing to pay them what they want but wants to leave anyway. The home town can add to a draw but I don't think it's ever the #1 or even #2 factor these days. When it comes to the Wiz and Durant, there really is no other reason for him to come to Washington.Comment

Warriors not going to get SVG nor Kerr eh
Lol
Hopefully Detroit can turn it around now that they cleaned house upstairs. Now time to clean house on the court. Firesale Smith, Jennings and I would honestly deal Monroe if I could get something intriguing back.Comment

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
No team would take Jennings, although I thought he was passable early in the season. Some team might be interested in Smith; just cleaning the slate would be good there. Dealing Monroe is dumb, as we would never get anything as good as him back.Comment

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
The Utah Jazz will contact John Stockton to see if he has any interest in their head coaching vacancy, according to sources.
The Jazz will have an extensive search with as many as 20 candidates.
Stockton has no previous coaching experience and has been reluctant of the sort of spotlight associated with the job.
The Jazz dismissed Ty Corbin in April.Comment

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
Sounds like Kerr wants the Knicks but they are still negotiating terms. The rumored contract numbers they are talking about seem kind of crazy for a first year coach, but it would be a big blow if the Knicks lost Kerr, and he knows that.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
They won't be Pistons
If they are I could see Josh Smith getting it together under SVG, concentrating on defense and not worrying about offense.. but if not they are both getting their asses shipped out. Some team will take each of themComment

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
Lionel Hollins now being linked to GSW:
After Van Gundy, the next best thing available is Hollins. There is interest from Warriors management, per one source, and some in the front office might even be of the opinion the Warriors should have already locked up Hollins. So if their clear first two choices don’t pan out, Hollins will likely get some attention from the Warriors.Golden State wants an offensive guy and Hollins definitely a defense-first candidate. His best offensive rating in Memphis came in 2009-10 — 108.3 points per 100 possessions (good for 13th in 2009-10). Last season, he had the Grizzlies 17th in offensive rating (104.9)….
To that end, I’m told Hollins is going to bring on a respected offensive mind as an assistant. No doubt, the Warriors would want to approve, but one name being linked to Hollins as an offensive-guru assistant is Paul Westphal.
