If he wants to play the old-school, tough-guy card, then more power to him.
Again, you've seen how Phil operates. Anybody that would be surprised by this...well, that's on them.

(Not that I think he's leaving anyway)

Don't think it really has anything to do with his pride though. Some Knicks fans believe that Phil doesn't even want Melo back, and while I disagree with that, I don't think Phil is so desperate to have him return that he'll have blinders on, or refuse to make a move out of spite. He's just not going to make a trade based on internet rumors and anonymous sources.

I just think the guy knows he has a job on his hands and he's prepared to work towards whatever goal it is, with or without Melo.

I honestly don't see anything wrong with that.

I don't understand this kind of talk. Melo has been an iso-centric player during his time in NY because thats the kind of offense Mike Brown loves to run. He's the reason we have "Iso Joe" on our hands now. All of Melo's bad habit were encouraged in NY, but what evidence do we have that suggest that he wouldn't acquiesce to Thibs? He's a superior coaching mind in every way with a proven track record.

Mike Brown? Iso Joe? What team are we talking about again?

If we can afford both id love afflalo too. Hes a proven shooter and defender. He was the starter on that Denver team that made the WCF iirc. But he might be worth about 10 mil and i doubt they have that much money left after Melo

DAL among teams to go after Gasol ...

The Dallas Mavericks plan to be among the teams pursuing Los Angeles Lakers center/power forward Pau Gasol once free agency begins July 1, according to sources close to the situation.

I know that Carlysle is a great coach, but I dont think that the goods would overweight the bads should Dirk and Gasol be both on court ... also I dont see his price tag drop bellow, $10 mill ... I would rather invest more time on the Wright project or run the risk and make a bid for Gortat.

Then again, DAL did very, very well with the Ellis/Calderon experiment so, who knows, maybe Gasol would fit in nicely.

By the way, over or under for Dirks new contract ($15 mill x y, 2 years) ?

Pau's going to be a factor somewhere IMO...Dallas would be an awesome fit...I would love to see him on the Spurs too...

Would Dallas really be an awesome fit for Pau? Where's the interior defense going to come from.. his ball sack has been missing for the past 3 years. If he can find it again then maybe Dallas would be a good landing spot.

Pau would be an amazing fit in Dallas or San Antonio's line ups.

I think it was more D'Antoni not know how to play him in his system

Perhaps, however even lost his sack when Phil was there

Carlisle certainly has a reputation for turning horrible defenders into adequate and in some cases, above average defenders.
