the more i look at it, the more i see that its not really a steal for the lakers. I mean brian grant is undersized and he can't get the job done it the west. THe lakers would be punished badly for their small ball play in the west.

    <hr /></blockquote><font class="post">

Brian Grant WILL PLAY PF in the West.

He is a PF, forced to play C by the Heat.

He can hit the 17 gt jumper, rebound VERY well and plays non stop D.

He's played that EXACT ROLE very well for Portland.

    Payton
    Kobe
    Odom
    Grant
    ??

    Bench
    Fisher
    Walton
    Butler

It's a Bulls like team, with Kobe having all the pieces he needs.

LA has enough extra chips to land a defense C at some point.

Miami just threw away a promising team (who were almost best in the L for the last 20 games) for a 32 year old Shaq, who'll get slower and slower AND who gives them no cap rook to get anyone for years.

    <hr /></blockquote><font class="post">

they also have rush george and medvedenko. But I got 20 bucks that says Dampier is in a Lakers uni next season. And for Jon Barry to sign the Veterans Exception because chances are that Fisher is a rocket next season. On the chance they can keep fisher (and dont need barry) then I would like to see Karl Malone back.

So here is alook at LAL lineup next season

    Payton - Vujacic - Barry
    Kobe - Rush - Barry
    Odem - Butler - George
    Grant - Walton
    Dampier - Slava

thats is a good squad. of course alot of it hinges on where FAs go but it is a likely team for LAL

    <hr /></blockquote><font class="post">

roshi, brent barry signed with the spurs so forget that, and vujacic is a sg/sf i think. Best bet is to get dampier, but i don't think they have the cap space.

    <hr /></blockquote><font class="post">

No, Vujacic is a PG. and i was talkin bout Brent's bro Jon Barry.

    <hr /></blockquote><font class="post">

is john barry a free agent
Just wait till Arsenal moves into Emirates Stadium.

The Lakers dont have much choice really as they want to send Shaq to the East.

      I disagree.

I've watched at least 50 Laker games this season and there is NO WAY I'm going to let a guy that doesn't show up every night (ShaQ) pull 30 million of my teams salary for one season.

I like the big dog, but Detroit proved that you don't need a dominate big man in the middle. You need a guy that has heart and a guy that can rebound &amp; play defense.

Even with Shaq the Lakers were KILLED on the boards by Detroit.

Tell me how a thing like that happens?

Also tell me how a guy as big as Shaq doesn't average at least 20 points AND 15 rebounds a game?

I think Kobe and LUKE WALTON (yeah, I said it) have what it takes to make the other team members around them better players as long as the offense doesn't run through a strong low post presence.

How exactly is LA going to get Dampier? I don't see how any Lakers fans could think there team got better. Miami should be the ones thinking that, any team with Shaq is a contender, was Miami a contender last year? No. Are they this year with Shaq? Yes.

                  Re: SHAQ ACCEPTS TRADE!!!!!

                  Shaq's stats against Detroit:
                  26.6 pts, 10.8 rebounds, 2.8 blocks, 63.1% FG
                  Postseason 2004:
                  21.5 pts, 13.2 rebounds, 2.77 blocks, 59.3% FG
I'll say that's pretty good for Any big man.

                  Ben Wallace stats against LA
                  10.8 pts, 13.6 rebounds, 1.0 blocks, 47.8% FG

                  I'll take Shaq anyday.
During the Finals, Shaq was the only guy on the Laker team who can consistently rebound as they had a non-existent PF(Malone was injured). Detroit had both Ben and Rasheed Wallace to rebound the ball. They also play much better D.
If you play any basketball and I dont mean videogames, pulling down 10+ boards a game is really good. If you try and block the ball, like Shaq, chances are you wont be getting the rebound.

Going through a strong low post presence will only make players like Kobe better. It will also free up Kobe to do things as the other team needs to guard/block out Shaq. They cant just double-up Kobe all the time.
Double Shaq and he can pass it out to the unguarded player.
Kobe drives to the hoop and he can either try to score or dish it off to a big center like Shaq who can hit the high FG(dunk).
It's a win-win situation which is why if given the choice, every team would want a strong center or big man like Shaq/Duncan/KG.

Well I think the nba revolves around a "center" just look at the spurs, lakers, pistons, even though wallace didn't put up shaq numbers he was a force and stood his ground, blocking shots and rebounding, any great nba team has to have a good center so I think the heat did the right thing with the trade. Now who will be the lakers center? grant? please..
