But he still went there, and STAYED. Something that many teams in the league have hard time of doing. Look at the Blazers right now. Aren't even able to keep Aldridge,Matthews,Lopez on their team, despite their team being one of the top teams in the west this past season.

The media always says "win and you'll attract players"....well we've seen a number of winning teams throughout history end up losing a star player just cause he wanted to go to a bigger market.

Aldridge, leaving 50+ win Blazers team, and 2 of the teams who were in consideration are the horrible Knicks/Lakers. The whole Lebron leaving Cleveland to go to Miami stuff. Paul left Hornets team who made playoffs 3 of past 4 years,to go to a (at the time) struggling Clippers team. Howard leaving Magic to go to LA.

List goes on and on,but it's definitely harder for a smaller team to keep their star player, even if they're doing good, than it is for a team like LA,NY and so on,even if those teams are doing bad.

In fairness, the Knicks were going nowhere with Gallenari, Chandler and Felton. At least with Melo you guys had a chance.
Am I trolling? Am I serious? Did Dennis Green and the Cardinals really "let them off the hook"? What about the children? Find out next week

CP3 and Howard were traded. They didn't choose to go play for those franchises, actually.

Melo wanted to go home right?

Plus he kept butting up against the Lakers and after repeatedly losing in the playoffs to them, he probably wanted a change of scene.

Knicks can attract players who grew up in NY but maybe nobody else?

Marbury was also a player who wanted to go back home, willing to leave a good situation in Minnesota. So he got his way and went to the Knicks but that didn't work out either.

Marbury actually stopped in NJ and PHX before PHX traded him to NY.

Gallinari never played with Chandler. EDIT: you mean Wilson, not Tyson I suppose. My bad.

Let's not turn FA into a Knicks discussion. Clearly, they're not a big time FA destination. They have to overspend on marginal players just like every other crappy team in the league.

You just hope your team does it right while developing young players who you can retain.

The Denver trade included the 5-year max extension, he wasn't going anywhere.

Agree or disagree with David Aldridge?

If Generic NBA team added Porzingis, Jerian Grant, Afflalo, Robin Lopez & maybe Corey Brewer, it would be considered a very good offseason.

Someone correct me if im wrong but I think Howard demanded a trade to LA like Melo did with NY....

Not allowed to post my man Broussard here anymore?

@Chris_Broussard: Sources: Knicks meeting with Corey Brewer and Derrick Williams today in LA. NYK has about $8 mill left to spend....

@Chris_Broussard: Corey Brewer on Lakers' list as well, sources say

Not really. All of his examples are UFA's, Anthony Davis is a RFA. Not to mention the fact that Davis got the biggest contract in NBA history.

I concur with the thoughts in this thread though on how fit and situation matter more than market to NBA free agents nowadays.

Paul wanted to go to LA, and chose Lakers but then trade was vetoed,so he settled for Clippers, but either way,he still ended up going to LA cause that's what he wanted.

Dwight wanted out of Orlando too though. It wasn't his first choice, but he ended up going to LA either way. Had things worked out, surely he would've stayed there.

He's only been there for 3 years. 22 years old and he gets biggest contract in the league...of course anyone would stay under those conditions. He would've been RFA for a number of years to come anyways. The real test will come in around 3-4 years from now. Lebron was in Cleveland for 7 years before going to Miami. Carmelo was in his 8th season when traded. Howard left Orlando after 8 seasons. Paul left New Orleans after 6 years.
