    Re: 2015 Offseason Thread

Oj,id say hes a good defender. 13-14 he had low minutes so his numbers took a hit,but hes a top 10 shot blocker in the league. 13-14 his minutes dropped alot. But 14-15 he can play close to 20 mins a game off the bench. 25+ as a starter in his first 2 years. Not known for being offensive player, but still had offensive rating of 115 in past 2 years on bottom 10 offensive teams in Charlotte. Defensive rating of just 99

@SteveBHoop: Celts/Denver discussed Gallinari deal, but nothing doing as of now. Some conflicting talk from sources, but may want to keep an eye on this.

Biz is an OK defender, nothing to write home about...

Biz is an elite help defender and a good rim protector... As far as defending someone man to man, he's pretty darn average though.

He's had a DRAT of 99 the past two seasons and averaged 9pts/12rebs/3blks per 36 minutes in them as well. He's never going to be the Serge Ibaka he was imagined as when he was drafted, but he's a very solid defensive role player off the bench. I wish we had kept him, especially for that bargain bin price.

We laugh at Vince McMahon demanding that his commentators tell certain stories but I think it is a SHAME that the Warriors D-League team won the D-League championship and it was not acknowledged by ABC. Not sure why this story wouldn't be pushed. Not to mention the Warriors won the Vegas Summer LEague last year as well. Just simple booking in my opinion to be honest. The NBA needs to push the D-League the same way the WWE has recently pushed NXT. Make it something that casual fans feel like they should seek out. It is your product @NBA .

Boban Marjanovic is an intriguing pickup for the Spurs. If nothing else, he'll be a giant out there at 7'3". Wow.

Agreed. I've been saying that for some time but probably because it's not instant money they won't. Its a shame too because it's the one thing that could probably give the ncaa the kick in the butt it needs

Giant and nothing else don't get much playtime in the NBA.

For those who have/had issues with the Moratorium period of FA

Understandably, Mark Cuban isn’t the biggest fan of the NBA’s free agency moratorium right now — DeAndre Joran told him he was coming to Dallas, then during that window changed his mind and re-signed with the Clippers. Cuban is ticked, and he’s got issues with the system.

Cuban isn’t alone, there are other teams around the league who have concerns about the system — there were a lot of dominoes that fell based on Jordan’s verbal commitment.

The NBA’s competition committee, and after them the owners, are going to take a look at adjusting the moratorium. But getting something done is not that simple. Here is what Adam Silver said on NBA TV from Summer League (hat tip Eye on Basketball for the transcription).

But on the other hand people have to remember one of the reasons for the moratorium was it used to be a guy could go from being a player under contract to all of a sudden at 12:01 signing with a new team. And people would say, ‘How in the world would that happen if he had been under contract and wasn’t supposed to be talking to other teams?’ So everyone agreed we needed a period of time in which more than either the player’s existing team or some team that somehow miraculously had had a conversation with him without having it directly — you needed an opportunity where other teams would have a chance to talk to that player. And now, what happened in this case was, of course, his own team — and I don’t know what the facts there are, and I’m sure we’ll ultimately spend more time looking into it, but at least as reported, DeAndre Jordan, through the moratorium period, reached out — that’s the report at least — and had second thoughts about leaving.

I will say it’s an imperfect system, there’s no question about it. The question is, ‘Is there a better system?’ And that’s something that the league office, and in discussion with our owners, we’re always looking to do things better. It so happens we have an owners’ meeting here in Las Vegas on Tuesday, we have a competition committee [Monday]. And there’s no doubt we’ll spend time talking about it to see just that, if there’s a better way. And on top of that, it also is part of our collective bargaining agreement as well. So even if we say, ‘Yeah, here’s a better way of doing it,’ we can’t unilaterally change it. It has to be changed through a collective bargaining process.

Silver said he has talked to Cuban and he understood the system, that nothing was binding.

All they have to do to change it is get the majority of GMs to agree, then get the owners to agree, then get the players union to agree.

                        Good luck with that

I can't see the players giving up money AND giving up a major bargaining chip in the ability to consider their options.

The only way they allow that to happen is by winning back some money and the owners would probably prefer to keep the money than worry about this limbo period.

I believe one day we'll get a 7'2+ guy who has a good run in the league...

I was watching this show about tall people on Netflix and they said something about how any above 7'1 is a "condition" or something like that. They brought up Roy Hibbert and mentioned that even with his height, he's proportioned better than most of the guys you see his size. Guess it makes sense, he's clumsy as hell, but he runs the floor well and honestly doesn't get hurt that much....really a shame he can't be more dominant...
