    re: 2016 NBA Offseason Thread

I always felt like its on the owners, they are the ones that ultimately drive up the market.

When you give a guy a max deal, and he doesn't live up to it, whose fault is that really?

Max deals are such a gamble, guys get thrown such obscene amounts of money, nobody could ever live up to it. Especially in the MLB.

No damn way Conley lives up to that contract, but if your foolish enough to throw that at him, then so be it.

We're all free market capitalists when it comes to mediocre players getting paid (NO MORE MAX CONTRACTS) but just last week we watched the most socialistic thing in sports (a draft that 1. Tells a person where he's going to work and 2. Predetermines his salary) without saying a peep.

We pick and choose with these things.

Supply and demand, I don't blame the owners for giving out max deals to players to keep them, because if Memphis didn't max Conley out, someone else would have. Same goes for players like Derozan, Beal, Whiteside, etc. All are solid players, but no where near worth a max deal.

Not sure what the NBA can do, go the NFL route with guarantees and a stricter cap? Going the MLB route would make things interesting with no penalties, but then you might have teams still trying to play keep up by paying a lot of money for decent players.

Of course, that's the flipside. Your right, there was probably some team out there that would have paid Conley even more.

But what I was basically saying, the owners ultimately work against each other, because they are willing to throw out these absurd contracts.

Owners are an oxymoron. They want lower prices, but in the end are the reason the market is so high lol.

            How's this for economics?

ICYMI: Heat offered Dwyane Wade $10M per season. Four teams now pursuing him. @WojVerticalNBA on @TheVertical.
Riley really gonna do that though?

Does Riles 'have the guts' to stick with that 10 per offer though? [emoji38]

That's almost a slap in the face to Wade.

Exactly. He's worth the Max. It's just the timing of the cap going up. lol at the ASG being the barometer whether someone should get the max or not also.
