re: 2016 NBA Offseason Thread
The more I think about it, the more I love Joe Johnson coming to Utah. He's a veteran guy, still can shoot at a high level, he can score, and he can push Rodney Hood for his starting job if need be.
Huge improvement over Joe Ingles and Chris Johnson.Twitter: @TyroneisMaximus

re: 2016 NBA Offseason Thread
I don't get it. The dude used econ terms when he didn't need to, but he basically said guys get paid because teams have to pay someone, not because they deserve to be paid. The scarcity of decent players and abundance of money creates inflated contracts for guys that other people think aren't that good.
But JJ just says "you used big words". Didn't respond to the point at all. Then he acknowledges in his next tweet that he thinks there should be no cap and LeBron should be able to get what he wants, only that with the system the way it is, these contracts make sense.
TL;DR: Guy says the market sucks. JJ says he used too many big words, but acknowledges the market sucks, only that in this sucky market, these deals make sense. He just tried to play the guy for no reason.
There is no reason at all (even with the adjustment to the total cap) that E'Twuan Moore (journeyman making starter money, LMAO) should make $8 million a year, Timofey Mozgov should make $16 million (after losing his starting job to Tristan "undersized for a 4" Thompson), Joakim signs for 4 years guaranteed coming off two injury plagued seasons (deal is going to look terrible after year 1) or that a group of Chandler Parsons/Mike Conley/Bradley Beal are "max" contract players.
All this insane spending is going to lead to another lockout and a lot of hamstrung teams looking to unload a ton of bad contracts.

Exactly, the issue is the same as it has always been. Owners and GM's are overpaying for mediocre talent just because they can. Only a handful of teams are seeing how the market is shaping in this new economy and will adjust (without over paying, hopefully) accordingly. There is no reason at all (even with the adjustment to the total cap) that E'Twuan Moore (journeyman making starter money, LMAO) should make $8 million a year, Timofey Mozgov should make $16 million (after losing his starting job to Tristan "undersized for a 4" Thompson, Joakim signs for 4 years guaranteed coming off two injury plagued seasons (deal is going to look terrible after year 1) or that a group of Chandler Parsons/Mike Conley/Bradley Beal are "max" contract players.

They are spending it because they HAVE to half of the money the league goes to the owners and half goes to the players. So they literally need to spend all this money. They ain't doing it just because they can.

No, I don't.
He's coming off two injury plagued seasons, has never even made an all-star team and his production has steadily declined over the last three seasons, but I'm supposed to believe he's a "max" player (with Parsons being one too on his team no less, LOLOL) with top tier players like Durant, Westbrook, LeBron and soon Curry (signed for less first go - round). No, just no.
There is no real way to curb the overspending of GM's, but getting rid of salary restrictions while maintaining the current salary cap structure would help. More money for actual superstars while limiting how much the GM's can spend overall. This current system (with an inflated cap) is proving just how flawed this system is/was.

Hate to break it to you, but Johnson sucks now. The Jazz already have good/solid wing players in Hayward, Hood, Burks and Ingles. They need to imporve in other areas (PG production/play and big man depth) to make the next leap. They be waiving or trading Johnson within the year, TBH.

The more contracts that come out, the more better that Delly deal looks for the Bucks or Cavs. Now I'm worried if the Cavs won't match Delly, what are they going to do about JR? I know he repped by LBJ crew, but if JJ or Deng is any indication, JR might see a yearly double digit salary too, especially with the year he had.Comment

I know there is a spending floor and teams like Portland and Philadelphia need to overspend to reach it - which will lead to bad contracts - yet that doesn't speak to spending it wisely. E'Twaun Moore signed for nothing 2s easons ago with the Bulls (2 years/ $1.9 million) dollars but is now a mid - level exception (or the equivalent) earning player? I don't think so.......

Never said they were spending wisely or unwisely for that matter. Just saying it was necessary to spend it. I don't think they are spending it wisely at all. I agree with your posted except for the they are spending it because they can.

So if the current system is flawed, what is your suggestion to improve it then? Especially if teams aren't "spending wisely"(You ever notice how easy it is for us to judge how someone is spending money when it's not our money? Lol)?
Oh and a Lockout is/was coming regardless of how much guys got paid. We all said this right after the last lockout ended that they'd be right back in the same position 4 years later.#RespectTheCultureComment

And the agents are killing it right now because they are getting their guys multi year deals instead of 1 or 2 year ones.
It's an awful free agent class. Awful timing for teams. Great timing for average players.
I don't think we learn anything about anything in the league from this outside of agents are not dumb."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace
