You'd have to be a complete tool to believe that Kupchak made either of those two decisions. It was the owner, the same owner that has lead the Lakers to the playoffs 25 out of 26 years. I'll trust him over a center that claims he was told to get fat. A guy who gets surgery right before the season as a contract negotiation ploy, and a coach who sat back and let a team deteriorate. Phil is a great coach, but his swan song was being outcoached by the first coach to not win the Olympics championship with NBA players. His point guard was dead set against him, and wouldn't comment on their relationship. His most talented player couldn't wait to see him gone, and his franchise center, whom the offense was designed around got fat. I hate to say it but Red Auerbach looks like a genius. The team's leaders asked for a chance to win the series and he bucked it down. I hope all of that is in the book. If it is just a pile on kobe book, then I smell spin control.

          Re: Phil Jackson on Kobe

I been i laker fan since 96 the beginning of Shaq and KB love affair, and while it was sad to see the break up i would never pass judgement on anyone or blame anyone for what happened... ALL OF THEM WHERE AT FALT... you wanna tell me Kobe was the only problem here...you got to be crazy. Over the years i have seen Kobe 'mature' with LA he has been critized and ridiculed more than any player in the last 10 years but what people won't get is he doesn't care what anyone thinks and rightfully so. All this talk ain't changing nothin. He could not win with Shaq anymore so shaq got the booth. And Shaq is better off now (35 lbs better)

I just love basketball and would love to see what KB can do by himself, why should people waste time disecting his character? OK he's an a-hole we get, But so was no.23 if i recall...but who cares. Given this kid's work ethic and drive he can be one of the greats...the one thing missing from his game is what he is doing now -making his team mates better- GIVE HIM ATLEAST A YEAR

Its so funny people want to say KB is bad person so you should not like him...blah blah blah. Wake up, this is basketball
“It’s so senseless to me to say he shouldn’t take over like that. You give the same amount of shots to everybody else and they’re not making that many, I know it.”

                  BUMP

I just got the book today and I am interested to start reading it and see what Phil had to say about Kobe. I know there was more to it, but we'll see on much Phil wrote down and what made it into the book.
