Andrei Kirilenko has recently been the talk of the NBA, putting on a brilliant display of defensive and offensive basketball. By playing for a market such as Utah and sticking to the fundamentals, Andrei has not received the exposure of popularity to the extent of players such as Kobe Bryant, ALlen Iverson, or Shaquille O'Neal. Andrei, from Russia, must have one of the most clever nicknames in the NBA. AK-47 (Initials - Jersey Number). AK-47 represents his coach, Jerry Sloan, to perfection, through his hardnosed defense. Kirilenko first got the attention of the players, coaches, and fans last year when he accomplished the difficult feat of posting a 5 x 5 game (5+ points, 5+ rebounds, 5+ assists, 5+ steals, 5+ blocks) . . . twice in one week! Andrei was able to hold up the fort for the Jazz when their top scorer, Matt Harpring went down with injury. He was able to keep the under-estimated Jazz in contention for a playoff spot, and missed the playoffs by just one game. At the start of the new season this year, Andrei Kirilenko started things off by single-handedly destorying the Los Angeles Lakers in the first quarter by getting 5 blocks in the quarter alone (finished with 8). He has now been labeled as one of the most complete players in the NBA.
