I remember in the baseball forum everyone telling me the Angels needed to prove they could win around Trout for him to re-sign, and I kept trying to tell them the bag will talk, same here. Winning is awesome, but can you imagine someone handing you a piece of paper that says sign here and over 5 years you’re guaranteed 228 million? Good for Giannis.

It’s interesting how it went from “He’s going to go to Miami/Dallas/whoever” to “he was never going to turn down all that money” in a span of 48-72 hrs.#RespectTheCultureComment

Re: 2020 Offseason Thread
I never really expected him to leave, but it's always fun to speculate. I do think both money and loyalty played a role, Giannis has always said he wanted to stay so long as he and the franchise were on the same page and I think that was the largest reason for him staying.Comment

He could have tried to stack the deck in his favor more in Dallas or maybe Golden State (though Klay's second serious injury casts at least some doubt on that), but there's at least an argument that Milwaukee offers just as good a chance to win as any of his other options did. Having said that, I do think if winning was all that mattered and he didn't care how he got a title, Dallas was probably the place for him to go. But I think he wants to prove that he can win in Milwaukee.
Edit: I'd also add that if you factor in taxes (not even accounting for endorsements if you think Milwaukee is holding him back in that regard), Milwaukee couldn't even offer much more money than the other teams could. Factoring in taxes, you're talking about roughly $150 million over 6 years if he had stayed in Milwaukee for 2 more years and then signed a 4 year max elsewhere versus roughly $150-155 million over the next 6 years on the supermax.Last edited by Yeah...THAT Guy; 12-16-2020, 12:27 PM.NFL: Bills

Re: 2020 Offseason Thread
Money now is worth more than money later so what he could’ve maybe made by signing an extension and then maxing out with another team doesn’t matter IMO. I think it would’ve been easier to judge whether or not the Bucks will have as good a shot as any other team to win a title after Jrue was there for a year, their last performance did not inspire confidence. We shall see.
I just wish there would’ve been rumors he was interested in the Bulls so we could’ve gotten some salty nickname out of this. Euro Giannis? The Fund Freak? What kinda alliteration you got for us King?Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Thank goodness! Now all these young NY fans (on social media) fantasizing about Giannis in a Knick uniform can shut up.Comment

Re: 2020 Offseason Thread
I get that Giannis took the most money anyone could offer, but the Bucks are also a title contender in their own right. This isn't the Angels where they're still trying to figure out a path to being a playoff team or even the Trail Blazers where Dame took the money even though they've always been a mid-tier team in their conference. Giannis took the supermax with the impression that he'll also have as good a chance as anyone (outside of maybe the Lakers) to win a title or titles.

What have the Bucks done that you have them as a title contender?Comment

Pretty much everybody considers the Bucks to be a title contender, be it the media, people within the league, people betting in Vegas, etc. It's not exactly a controversial statement.NFL: Bills

Re: 2020 Offseason Thread
Um, they lost in the conference finals two years ago.
People are acting like they were obliterated by the Heat. No, the Heat won one game on a bull**** call (IMO) & two games with Giannis essentially out of the line - up.
Do they have to prove they can translate their regular season success to the playoffs? Of course, but they are still the favorites in the east & Giannis is still the best player in the conference (or NBA, IMO).
Jrue Holiday is a huge upgrade over the non-shooting, playoff choking Eric Bledsoe too.

Re: 2020 Offseason Thread
This article does hit on some of what I've been saying the last few days on Giannis and the Bucks as a organization:
'I’m a man of my words. And, you know, this is big.
Being on the team that drafted me, believed in me, took care of me, took care of my family, took care of me financially. I always wanted to give back. And I’ve tried to give back since Day 1 I’ve been here.
I love the city. I love playing with my teammates. I love this organization.
Kareem needed to get out But when Abdul-Jabbar left, it felt like he took so much of the elite pedigree with him, out of the city of church steeples and lake effect snowflakes and on to greener valleys of L.A.
Since Kareem we’ve enjoyed a championship flirtation, sure, and a few late-round dalliances in early May, but mostly we just aged gracefully with every disappointing season. We’ve had too many fourth-quarter retreats out of the arena and onto a cold, stiff walk back to the car.
No more. A two-time MVP, just 26 years old, talent for days and a likable guy too, choses fight – not flight – for an NBA championship.
Giannis chooses the Bucks.
Milwaukee.
And us.
Let the healing begin.
The article is too long to quote and under a pay window to link, but there is stuff in there about the large missteps that has happened to the Bucks organization throughout the years, the Ray Allen trade, the Larry Sanders contract we are still paying, etc..... and being a mediocre or below franchise for a good chunk of the Bucks franchise.
It doesn't even mention the screw up of the FO on Bogdan trade recently.Last edited by roadman; 12-17-2020, 11:37 AM.Comment
