I think he's number one for me.

It's him or Evan Mobley for me. And then I have Cade a close 3rd.

Is it bad that I want Luka Garza for the Knicks with the lower of our 2 picks?

            I just love his game.

Forget about B.J Boston. The scouts that rated him incorrectly must be the same ones that said Skal Labissiere was gonna be a monster.

Kid is not a lotto pick and neither is Clarke at this junction.

Suggs and Green. Then everybody else.

I'll pass. I feel like for as good as Garza is offensively, he's that bad defensively, or will be in the NBA. He's not switchable and can't protect the rim, would be targeted defensively and is not be playable in certain lineups.

Fully expect him to have a Sabonis type of ceiling. And I don’t think he’s a starter.

He has a mature game and is a great shooter.

                    Yup sounds like Chris Kaman.

                      Re: NBA Draft 2021

As limited as Garza is I do think he moves decently in a half court setting, his lateral movement isn’t as bad as the dude who can barely make it up and down the floor before the shot clock expires makes it seem.

He might be so bad defensively that he never cracks a rotation, but best case scenario if he can defend in space like Marc Gasol, or develop enough on that end to not be a liability like Joker that makes him a top 5 level prospect that you could maybe land outside the lottery. I think it’s worth finding out considering those who pass on him are likely passing on him for more “upside” that never turns into anything more than wasted potential.

I truly think a realistic goal from him is a ZBo around the basket, Joker away from the basket (not the passing) and Kanter on defense. If the defense isn’t that bad you strike gold, if it is you have a bench player who is polished enough to contribute and play from day 1.

UNC is the only game he’s “struggled” in and he still ended up with 16 and 14.. didn’t shoot his normal 65% but spent most of that game making the right passes out of double teams and hard help.

He’s just a substantially better offensive player than Kaman. Kaman couldn’t shoot anything like this. Their games free throw line in aren’t that far off. I think Garza uses his body better, Kaman a bit more athletic. But Luka’s ability to hit so many shots out past that make him more versatile. 12 games in he’s still shooting almost 50% from 3, still has a TS% of nearly 70.. video game numbers.

People forget Kaman was a 6th pick and an All-Star though. I think anybody drafting outside the lottery would take that return.

                          Yeah sounds Chris Kaman lol.

Remember Kaman is an old brand center. He didn't need to shoot out there. Body type and play were exactly the same. Shooting as well.

Being an old brand center who didn't need an outside shot doesn't really mean that had he developed a shot he would be splashing them at Kevin Durant rates like Garza is though. And all unathletic 7 foot white guys have the same body type lol. That said Garza looks far less "soft" than Kaman, and I think him being a little more solid is what makes him so effective around the rim even though he can't jump over a pencil. Nobody can move him, which is why I think he's very old man Zbo-esque around the basket.

I'm not saying there aren't similarities between them but Kaman was quite a bit more athletic than Garza. He would meet guys above the rim for blocks, and roll/drive deceptively quick to the basket for dunks.. Garza gets by more with angles and craftiness and once in a generation touch. He's not catching a guy with a fake at the top of the key and quickly getting to the rim for a slam.

Like I said, I actually agree that they do have similarities, Kaman was a super efficient guy with those awkward fade-a-ways and up and under moves as well in his youth, same as Garza, Joker, etc.. But I think comparing them directly at this point really cuts short everything else Garza does and just how lethal he's been offensively. I mean we are comparing per 40 numbers of 26 and 14 vs 37 and 12, Garza's mix of per40 scoring and TS% is better than even Zion and Durant.

That said I would be surprised if Garza ends up as good of a pro as Kaman though. With many mocks having him undrafted or 2nd round I'm sure most teams would love to get Kaman production out of him. He's literally the only player I've ever watched who's been this good at the collegiate level and left me wondering if he can even crack an NBA rotation. He's an anomaly.

I don't really see a Garza/Kaman comp. Garza is a pretty unique player. If he had in even slightly below average NBA athleticism he might be a late lottery pick.

The best I can come up with is a bigger Luke Harangody. Harangody wasn't quite on Garza's level statistically but he put up big numbers in his own right, in an absolutely loaded Big East, far superior to whatever the current Big 10 is.

Big East POY, x3 All-American (second team). Played 70 games in the NBA.
