Re: 12/29 - 1/10 Games Discussion Thread
It's easy to say, don't blame the player, blame the front office for offering the contract. But they were in a tough situation. They were already over the cap, so it was a situation where either they could sign him, lose him for nothing(after trading away assets for him), or sign and trade. And in theory, Tobias is the better complement to Ben than Jimmy because Tobias doesn't need the ball in his hands as much(even though he over dribbles way too much now). So, I can somewhat understand the why. Though still terrible decision to sign Horford.
Tobias has been the "leader" last few years. It's just that Joel has stepped up and fully took over the leader role this year. He's way more vocal now. Last year peak Tobias. That's the best you're going to get from him. Honestly he misses Simmons the most. He can't create for himself, although he tries to isolate and over dribble just to take a bad contested shot. This was the year for him to show that he could be a all star and a true #2. That just isn't what he is. Most of the season he has been the 3rd-5th option. So I wouldn't say it's a leadership issue, it's an expectation issue. He's expected to be a #2, and he's a glorified role player. If he was making $18-22M instead of $35M, it wouldn't be as big of an issue
I have been on board trading him since start of last season. He might be better off on a team with lesser expectations. Even if we have to do what we did with Horford and add a 1st round pick, than it needs to happen. Not having something for Ben and Tobias's slump has the Sixers underachieving this year
Tobias is best as a third option. I view him as a complimentary piece to a team's main stars, but he is not a main star himself.
If I was the 76ers I'd avoid trading him for now, but only because they need a resolution to the Ben Simmons situation first. If they can get a #2 guy in exchange for Ben it would allow Tobias to settle back into a role more fitting him and eliminate the need for a trade. Philly needs to get on that.Comment

Lakers got the W after a hell of a run by Sacramento. I had the volume down slightly, but seemed like Gentry was losing his mind on the sideline. I couldn’t tell what he was so furious about with the official.PSN ID - A_Dubya13Comment
