100% a business decision that was forced by the Mavs' majority ownership. Luka stood to make $345M from a supermax and ownership wasn't about to swallow that bullet. Ultimately, the CBA's second apron and supermax rules are what lead to this trade. NBAPA wanted players to get more money and ownership agreed to it understanding the loopholes that would allow them to avoid doing so.

Also, keep in mind the Mavs' new majority owner is a lady who's more interested in politics than sports.

Still crazy that Anthony Davis was the prized possession for the Mavs. I get not wanting to commit to the Luka Supermax and "defense". But, there's better deals they could have made to extend the window and get a better return. Only one first as well. They already don't have control of some picks. Probably have a 2-3 year with your best players being #2 options and both being oft-injured

We still got Butler and Fox trades to wait for

Something has to be up, how do you call another team to initiate a trade like this, and in what world is AD and a first in 6 years the best move?

There's no way another team wouldn't have easily topped that.

Something just doesn't feel right about this whole thing that a trade literally out of nowhere happens so quickly without a single insider even getting wind of it, and it ends up being as one sided as it was.

Are we gonna find out someone bet on something? Luka suddenly getting busted for something? Something crazy had to have happened.

Jimmy Butler with all the craziness going on with his value tanked, I don't think he's only getting a single 1st and a player back as a return.

The timing for the Lakers is wierd because they were starting to really gel and looked like some roster tweakings away from contending imo.

I just don't think this was planned, the opportunity came up and they just coudn't pass.

AD is a monster but he's 32 and with his injury history, being a big man you can wonder how many more prime years he has left.

Absolutely sureal. I really wonder what's gonna happen next. Are they gonna try to make move to try and win now or more moves for the next couple of years past Lebron. I even wonder if Lebron and Doncic will play one game together. Maybe they can convince him to wave his NTC and go play for a contender. But is there even a contender that would want Lebron.

So wierd and unexpected. It's hard to process.

most stunned i've been by a trade like ever. you don't even shop him????!!?? heck you don't even gut the limited assets the Lakers had and you get AD and let me repeat this one 1st round pick for Luka Doncic. I'd quit basketball if i was a mavs fan. just a complete gift job.

                      Just saw a crazier conspiracy/theory.

What if Kyrie opts out of his player option in the offseason and joins the Lakers and reunited with LeBron and Luka?

Harrison / Kidd press conference was a joke. Harrison deflected a lot and kept talking about "his" vision and saying "me" a lot. Kidd did not look amused and answered most questions like a guy just trying not to get fired. This is 100% a business move as the Mavs owners in no way want to pay $345M for one player. The owners aren't about basketball, they're about trying to legalize gambling in Texas and build casinos.

Luka going to drop 80 pts on 27 February and probably 100 pts in April when he returns to the AAC.

The best timing in all of this, the NBA is doing the all star draft on Thursday during the TNT doubleheader featuring the Mavs in a finals rematch vs the Celtics, and the 2nd game is the Lakers.

More news on the deal, Cuban said he had no idea about the deal and wasn't involved. Mavs GM admits he only taked to the Lakers about Doncic.

There has to be some sort of collusion or something happening. I don't think I've ever heard of a trade happening with a major star where the GM openly admits he never contacted a single other team in the league about it and instantly just deals his star to another team for a low return.

But she's also the 2nd or 3rd richest owner in the league (net worth: at least 35B). Why own a team at all if you're going to make moves like this?

It's crazy that Nico admitted that both Pelinka and Dallas owner thought it was a joke at first, that Luka didn't request a trade or seemed like he didn't want to extend, that he's worried about next 3-4 years not 10 years, and that they only spoke to Lakers. I hope he's right becaus the logic doesn't seem there. Anthony Davis is legit, this isn't like they were targeting DeAndre Ayton. But, this is a prime MVP candidate who just carried them to the finals. Make it a bidding war. It makes it seems like they're trading him because he's chubby and don't play defense. Last I seen, a chubby player who doesn't play defense won the last 3 of 4 MVPs and a title lol
